Because #lovematters More

Raise up your dead
Give forth the light

Broken vessels
can not hide the
torch within

Never Dull The Spark

Death
Will never dull the spark
For the truth of love
Comes from the darkest night
Where hearts
Bring their own light

The Kiss...

My ears hear the sound
but my eyes see only the
motion of her lips.
Her voice is like music
drawing me in like the doomed ships of lore.
We kiss, that great dam of emotion bursts,
a tsunami of passion floods my being.
I am swept out of reality into the moment.
But the moment is fleeting, the passion recedes
yet the music continues
to, once again, draw me to that shore of mystery.

Why #lovematters More

Jesus’ life mattered
#Jesuslifematters
He forgave the Romans
and the thieves

But Jesus chose love
over his own life
He didn’t throw away
our chances for his...

So i know love matters
I know it’s real
choosing creation
over judgment and revenge

We know black lives matter
#blacklivesmatter
They forgave the warriors
and the thieves

But some chose love
over their own lives
they sacrificed their own
wearing blue with a badge

So I know love matters
I know it’s real
choosing creation
over judgment and revenge

When We Need Love More

The world can be messy and downright ugly,
But that is why love matters more. The world
Can be hateful and despiteful, but that is why

Love matters more. The big world hides snugly
In its odd corners, but that is why love unfurled
Itself to show its true colors. We are afraid to pry

The truth out from its shell, but we should raise
Our voices, speaking for the vulnerable and those
Who have never been shown love. We speak for

Those undervalued. Love is like a bright blaze
That shines during the dark times. Love shows
Itself when we need it the most. Love will roar.

Love’s Movement

Without love, my heart can never know pain.
Even to hate, there must be passion for something to spark that strong discontent.
But love is a much more powerful emotion.
Love moves us to act.
Love conquers anything!

Bread for You

This morning I woke up with an old song in my head
“Bread for you”
It was Duet Hope’s first album and title track
From back in 1980
I’m not sure why, but I had to listen to it again

Perhaps it was because they came from the same town I was from
Maybe it was because I was only eight years old when I first saw them
Or maybe because during those years of civil war
Their songs spoke of brotherhood and humanity
They didn’t sound like Christian songs

Jonathan and Caleb -
They spoke my same dialect and we had the same accents
But Jonathan’s enunciation of the Castilian Spanish within the songs
And their flamenco style guitars was something refreshing
Enthusiastic
Their lyrics and overall message
Was to spread love and kindness
Especially when it came to the poor

I ran into them some ten years later
They were popular as ever
Playing in bigger churches and venues
And yet they were still humble

It made me think of the teachings of Christ
What showing love and feeding the hungry really means
And how these two brothers from a small town in a war-torn country
Came out spreading the gospel

It was some years ago when I heard Jonathan passed away from leukemia
His brother Caleb continues to tour

It makes me think about fighting the good fight
Being kind to others
Bringing hope

Lofty Goals

In all cultures
Unconditional love
Is a lofty goal
Sadly it takes a death
To open eyes
Open hearts
To the beautiful ideal

beyond the cur(s)e of skin-deep hate

♪a rhymed, mirrored double octet♪

The vote is the most powerful instrument ever devised
by man for breaking down injustice and destroying the terrible walls which imprison
men because they are different from other men.
–Lyndon B. Johnson

i
cannot
even see
the ground beneath
the knee that presses
my face into the ground
i see a dark nightblindness
four hundred years without rebate
beyond the cur(s)e of skin-deep hate
no trace of humankindness
can in these hearts be found
no love that blesses
where by the teeth
bourgeoisie
bigots
die

i
cannot
even breathe
though life is for
both high and lowly
hate’s stranglehold cuts short
the crown of God’s creation
four hundred years without rebate
beyond the cur(s)e of skin-deep hate
the scourge of every nation
none willing to abort
strangles us slowly
if we hanker
slaves beneath
bloodshot
skies

cut me some s-l-a-c-k

The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty
by the bad people but the silence over that by the good
people.
—Martin Luther King, Jr.

i
cut me
into a thousand pieces
put me
out in the cold where ceases
my breath to breathe
while underneath

your knee i spill my faeces

ii
hate me
till love retains no traces
rate me
by colour bars and races
and when you feel
you've had your fill

inter me in dark places

iii
cut me
some slack
that I might flourish
put me
beside the streams that nourish
the broken screams
of broken dreams

surge me with human courage

 iv
my bones
will dance in new-found freedom
my moans
will fill God's holy Kingdom
though in the earth
i suffer dearth

i marvel in His Wisdom

v
one day
the graves shall burst wide open
this clay
that you have vainly broken
shall judge your soul
against the scroll

for thus His Word has spoken

New Mercies

Who can make a brand new day?
Or let the sun shine down on man?
Who can light a single ray?
Or give us each a perfect plan?
God alone will weigh the heart
For truly it is God to start
I thank my God for life and thee
And freedom underneath the tree
For chirping birds and summer rains
For autumn leaves and winter pains
For trials lead to victory
And tribulation sets us free
I count it joy, and knowing fully
None, to me, can be a bully
For He who makes the dawn his friend
And wraps the dusk until the end
Keeps creation in the palm
And brought to men the perfect balm
Health and healing, through his death
Brought to man his newfound breath
