Our Summer Memories

I know summer memories are supposed to fade away
Once fall and winter days come rolling around, but
How am I supposed to forget that summer with you?

I remember laughter, tears and sunshine as we sway
With the stars twinkling in the night sky and the gut
Wrenching feeling that this summer is not going to

To last forever like I wanted it to. I was only looking
For something temporary, but then you came in with
That megawatt smile, those sunshine eyes, that ocean

Breeze hair and I was easily losing my steady footing.
There was something magical. Everyone had a myth
That love is only for the summer, but as the motion

Of the waves are deeply felt within our souls there is
A lie behind that truth because I felt our love even as
The days became shorter. The elastic cord that holds

Us together was still very strong. Summer love fizzes
Out before there is a second chance, but your topaz
Eyes are ones I will not forget. We were summer gold.

At Summer's End

I heard the field speak
in words of what it was.
I heard the yesterdays
begging to be remembered,
to be revived and regrow.

I heard the seeds say,
we are all still alive; we are
tomorrow's bounty in dormancy,
we are to be the next big thing.

These things I heard as
the wind pushed over the
last remaining stalks of
yesterday's crop.

The world needs us, so
we must push on, ahead,
above our earthly den; towards
the uncertain air we float,
unaware of Summer's end.

We only know of the new life
we will bring one day after
many seasons have passed.
We only wait patiently
enjoying this freedom
hoping to make it last.

A Mind Off-Grid, Nr.14 - Medallion Man's Beach Encounter

She sells sea shells on the sea shore …
he wandered up and said “Hey Baby, waddya doin’ for?
you can sell those shells ‘till kingdom come
but I can think of something that’s a lot more fun
so why don’t we two take a walk
and leave those shells to talk their talk!”

And she said:
“Mummy told me not to talk to strangers
‘cos all men are bastards and fraught with dangers,
so off you go, and on your way
‘cos it’s right here I’m going to stay!”

And he said:
“Hey Baby, don’t you know the Golden-Rule
the one with all the gold is Oh-so-cool …
I’ve half-a-dozen Rolexes around my wrist
Ferrari in the garage and a hairy chest;
now I’ll make sure that you’re well fed
so why don’t we two go to bed?”

And she said:
“Daddy told me to value femininity
so I’m not going to lose my virginity
I’m pure and beautiful through and through
besides I’d never go out with a jerk like you!”

And he said:
“Hey Baby, I l-u-r-v a lady playing hard to get
with her fixed ideas and her body set
just come with me and I’ll open your eyes
‘cos that traditional stuff is just a pack o’ lies,
so run your hand through my curly hair
and I’ll take you on a journey to who-knows-where!”

And she said:
“Haven’t you noticed somethin’ about me?
I’m a mermaid, just popped out of the sea
with a long fishy tail and a lovely pair of breasts
that I’d never let get close to your hairy chest!”

So he cast his eyes down below her waist
and spied that fish-tail there in place
And he said:
“Uhhh … err baby … I think I’ll be on my way …”
and he went to the beach-bar the rest of the day
where he told his story ‘till he was a bore:
“The shells that she sells are sea shells for sure!”

Vintage Romance

Sunset walks along the Hampton boardwalk, morning breath kisses in the bed, with the last person you hope to wake up next to.
Greeting the new day with breakfast in bed.
Tomorrow was never promised so we lived each day like it was our last.
Picnics in the park, dancing till we were dizzy, laying out in the grass spinning records after the water fights were over.
Never thinking twice, the girls in their onesies and new bikinis, followed the boys into the lake head first, our adult swim turned into skinny dipping.
A cleanse in the fountain of forget and no regrets.
June blossomed into July, day turned into night.
Spring flings become summer romances, we knew our hearts wouldn’t make it out but we pulled the trigger and took our chances.
We were young and in love, we had it all yet we had nothing, just young and in love.

Pull up at seven to the drive thru theater.
Saturday night, “Some Like It Hot”, the gang’s all here there’s nothing sweeter.
We’d pack it up then it’s off to the rink.
We’d skate and skate hoping time stood still.
Late nights at the diner, praying the truck starts up again.
The same truck where our bodies became one for the first time.
The same truck where we said goodbye for the last time.
Our summer days turned into fall,
Our summer love began to fall,
At least three months we had it all,
Feelings change, but memories live on.
Five decades later, I still remember it all.
We had nothing but we had it all.
Forever young and in love.

Warm Recollections

The sun rises a little more to the south,
Yet the heat throughout the days lingers on,
It’s a sign that summer is coming to an end,
Like days of youth, now here and soon they’re gone.
It’s a nostalgic feeling as if it’s all fleeing,
The memory nestles somewhere in the mind,
As the days get shorter and the air gets cooler,
It’s leaving warm recollections behind.
Deep in the valley it’s a blistering heat,
The ocean breeze never reaches me here,
As the season changes I welcome the turn,
With the memory of another year.
