Poetry Contest

A NEW YEAR!!!!! ... all are eligible
Greetings, Fellow Poets!  It's time for our "Poem of the Month" to be featured in the DUP 'Poem of the Month Hall of Fame' and on the official facebook page for JANUARY 2019!.

You have three weeks to nominate no more than two of you favorite poems from another DUP poet!

Please note the following when making nominations:

1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme.  This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.

2. Please limit your nominations to TWO poems. You can nominate a single poem for two different poets; but the nomination maximum remains at TWO (no matter how many pseudonyms they have).  The majority of competitions on DUP cap nominations at one or two poems so there's no need to go beyond that.

No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!

Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.

BIG CHANGE:

ALL POETS ARE ELGIBLE AT THIS TIME, INCLUDING PREVIOUS WINNERS!

Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.

Any nominated member who wishes to opt out of the competition may do so by messaging me ( Poem-Worm ). I will contact the person who nominated you and request an alternate nomination.

Nomination Duration is three weeks followed by a week of site voting!

What I Am

I am the smile dangling from the sunlight mascarading the mask of voodoo upon the gloom.
If beauty had a name it would sound from the tongue as wine and flowers taking the breath away.

If ever there was a place to tend the heart it be beside the pieces of mine in my chest.
I am not much for simplicity, eager for excitement.

There is a strength amid the scars that hide beneath this flesh.
Rain to spill from the skies to your feet, I am one of the wonders born to the world, but struggling to be happy.

I am more than an object of affection to toss tired, lonely sheets.
I am the result of lessons taught and wounds that cut the soul deep.

I do not belong... yet somehow I fit in this panoromic pieced together view.
Kalideoscope heart, soul branded to set sail from one place to the next.

What is next?

I am sure....
I am pieces of glass that bleed but also the artistic hand that tends to every shard.

Souris Pour Moi

(Smile For Me)

Where have you gone my feisty little princess?
Your vigor and zest all but a shadow of what was once.
How I long for the smile that comes despite the hunger?

I missed those times when you can sleep dreamless;
When you can run and chase yellow fireflies without care,
And those moments when you can just cry without hiding.

Are you still there, burning dimly somewhere within me?
The rough passage and heated crucible wiped your innocence,
Or is it just your ignorance and foolishness that got taken away?

Will time be so kind to let you out before memories turns to Grey,
Faded and becomes clouded with illusions of youth amidst...
The brittle bone and dim eyesight of the altered wisdom of old?

If you can hear my plea, please answer me, let me feel you,
And once more be you, if not, like you just a little bit.
When no one is looking and I feel blue, fire up my torch within.

Let me see the road where I walk, even how muddy and steep,
Ease my journey, let me breathe in your golden essence again —
That child in me, stay alive and continue to remind me...

Not to be afraid of green monsters inside my head.
For delusions are for the sleeping, and I am still awake.
Not to waste a single effort you had made,
For everything counts, and I am not done collecting.
Not to forget that your choices were mine as well,
For whatever it was, it made me who I am, and still becoming.
To never lose hope and continue on living,
With a heart full of courage.

Let me look at you with my brown eyes under the shadows...
Of many sundowns and moon rises, of tides that ebbed and splashed.
To feel humbled with a gracious heart for the way things had turned.

Despite the many challenges of the road you had traveled
Of the many crossroads and fork roads you had chosen to take
I am here still hoping, not without scars, but all the better for it.

Keep smiling, and I will remember as I walk ahead.

Kaleidoscope

Confusion of it all within
Those facets, a kaleidoscope
The rattle of glass as it turns
Geometry within askew

The shapes coalesce into a form
Face now aligned, a wonderment
Several colors subtly defined
Eyes still radiant with every turn

But I at last remove this toy
And see her standing in the light
There is perfection to her face
A smile reflecting through the night.

Winter In a Room

thin curtains adorned with leaves hang from tall windows, slightly folding against the chill.
trees now bare remain still, there is no more rustling of leaves in the wind, just a crackling of boughs adjusting to the falling temperatures
sun splinters through bare branches casting yellow light that remains cold to the touch, outer limbs stretch steeley fingers grappling for warmth
heat in the room rises, billowing the golden curtains to rustling the leaves against framed glass where trees can only look on and see what they once had is now locked inside

"Made the great tree seem as a little bird
Before the mystery of glass!"

THESE GREY CLOUDS

THESE GREY CLOUDS
S.JENSEN (c) 2018

grey clouds...
when I talk to you
I am happy
know that...
without you
not so much...
I keep busy
yet...
my dear friend
missing you!
just saying!
it's been weeks
and it's just
you are in my mind
constantly
really ...my forever friend
where are you?
need you more now
than ever
I just sit here
going the arms
I need that hug
feeling better
it's been rough
and I didn't talk much
yet still...maybe
it's just all the
current changes
one computer down
one with issues
leaves thoughts
floating...wish
I could be with you
so really ... will we ever
be beyond...
I feel like the grey clouds...
we deserve happiness
we both really do
know even though
I don't talk much
lately I still love you
very much...
am I a fool in
these grey clouds
clouds or no clouds
one thing that will
never change
my heart is still same
so into the clouds
with or without
know my friend
you are on my mind
as I get over this
illness ...
voice into the air
I shout whether it's
heard or not
I think on you
and I smile... no matter what
I always will.
still waiting....
for the unrequited love
that just won't go
away
or something new
to help ease the
pain
yet I feel
I will be in limbo
forever...
I am in limbo...

DUP Discussion Confessional 1-Bobbleheads

(Listening to Bob James - Westchester Lady)

We’d seen your avatar
Popping up
Among the bobbleheads
To the left of the
Computer screen;
Yet our paths
Had never crossed
On the lookout for pieces
That push
The limits
Of performance
In orbit-
Where I
Execute
Myself
And
Bleed
Out in
Folk
Ballad/
Poetic
Verse/
Ditty
For you.

{Aint nothing slow about DUP}
A carousel of electronic goods: artifacts
Offering up adult desires;
Being pieced together
For pleasure or pain; to covet or pass

A platform
Revolving: circular
Motion with the
Carved and painted
Wooden animals:
Rows who
Imitate
Galloping; posts
Mounted to
Circus music
Inviting the seats

The Whore of Bethlehem

Her perfume is the charred-black ghost
of subterranean brimstone,
her dress a peaches-and-cream snub
to modesty and mother’s milk.

The silken attitude she wears would make
a prophet warn for years
of just such sweet daemons.

Only whores and mothers, all,
the women of the Testaments. Leant
in the doorways of the troubled soul
as prostitutes of ghettoes where
the Ghost has given up.

I see her, my embodiment of this,
and feel her odd power. To be ugly and tempting,
serene and chaotic, a slap
to ordered masculinity: the whore
of Bethlehem.
