Secure

Golden Sol has hidden
From an angry purple-orange morn
Revealing feelings now unbidden
A love has died, but who will mourn?

He has not called
She has not spoken
Where they were, once, both enthralled
Now both of them heartbroken
Over oaths they have dissolved

Anger, like a moss, grows thick
in the damp and shade
A hearty cure for those lovesick
At least, thatís whatís displayed

They keep their wounds out of the light
Sunlight will not cure
A better treatment, dry and dark
Cold, but quite secure

Blue Lotus

Hide away, my psyche
Donít risk getting feisty
The World wonít understand
Your voice, most likely banned

Wrap it in some verse
Ambiguous or terse
Authority wonít notice
Not unlike Blue Lotus

If you dare to strike a nerve
The nation-state will self-preserve
Except for those who they dismiss
Already on the crazy list

Poetry, Deep Underground
Is, in a word: Profound
The evil Governmental sluts
Already think that we are nuts!

Wait, I'm thinking

[rut]

If regrets were bricks
I could've housed the homeless
of any given nation

and if dreams were grain
I could feed the foodless
and still have enough
to do it all again

[Journey]

and you, the start gun
catalyst of all this great haul
for the long run

[do you even know what you've done]

you. are oxygen
most natural inspiration

the fertile earth
where the grain is sewn

My Blues

Someone is thinking
 Of you
Through the restless
 Night
Wishing and dreaming
 Closer to your heart
Here and near
But
 Youíre
   Still
     So
       Far

Iím still here sitting
 Stirring
   Remembering
The silhouettes dance
Wishing and dreaming
Of this
 Unrequited
   Romance

Amid all the moods
 Colors and hues
The reds
 The purples
   My blues

I lie here and want
That which
I cannot
 Have
But I must entrust
 This perfect
   Lust

Empty Nest

One evening spent alone, in solitude,
my memories play out and make me smile.
I muse about the love I have for you,
and marvel that weíve nearly raised our child!
Todayís a shopping day for mom and daughter,
a time when dad can get a little rest.
My work is done. Iíve earned this Scotch and water.
This time alone reminds me, how Iím blessed!
Our little one is talking more of boys,
with less revulsion than she did last year.
When did she acquire so much poise?
Sheís nearly grown! Weíre growing old, my dear!
I think itís time that you and I confess,
weíre not yet ready for an empty nest!

Almost Gone

I think itís time to start again
or step away and end this farce.
With honesty, against chagrin,
shall I anoint your callused heart?

Our flame blown out some time ago.
We never kiss, we hardly talk.
Does Love abide, sans passionís flow?
Or is it time for me to walk?

Have we a match to light lustís fire?
Do embers glow, yet still, below?
Do I dare provoke desire,
refilling whatís become hollow?

The cravings that we had, once strong
have faded, now theyíre almost goneÖ

Inside Me

How do you see

What's inside me

How do you speak

Words I only think

I want you inside me

You're already there

Under Ground

I passed two women kissing
Young lovers caught in passion
A man jostled against my side
In a hurry to go anywhere
that held a more beautiful †sight †
than could be seen here
I think not
But I couldn't stay and gaze

I also had to go, catch my train †
When I came to the platform †
I passed a woman pissing †
Old, drunk and stinking †
Her back against the wall
Many people passed †
It seemed they didn't care
And neither did I really

I took a ride on the Underground †

When I stepped off the train †
Going to my destination †
I passed an old man crying †
He held a violin and played softly †
Tears rolled and beauty was born
But I couldn't stay and gaze †
I had to go and catch a cab
First I placed a bill in his case

I stopped to buy a paper
And caught the sent of desire †
It held me transfixed in time
I turned to search for its owner †
A pretty smile and hypnotic eyes †
I saw a blush flood across her face
Frozen in each other's gaze
I had no where to go now

Better Days

( a Quatern )

In Dresden cups that have seen better days,
A fragile memory on breeze of sighs.
That speaks serenely just behind the shades,
The touch of your embrace that never dies.

As I extend an offer for some tea
In Dresden cups that have seen better days,
Your wistful nod, the history of me
Becomes a part of you as it replays.

There is no reason, what we need to say,
We see it all in silence like a dream.
In Dresden cups that have seen better days,
I skip the sugar, then stir in the cream.

To join you in a loverís reverie,
I sit, you watch me from a distant haze.
We slowly bow our heads to sip some tea
In Dresden cups that have seen better days.

Almost God

Tonight, I was awakened
In the parlor where I sit
On top of the baby grand, †
†
As the chain at my neck yanked †
& I blinked, dazed from the light †
That brightened the wallpaper. †
†
I looked around, bewildered †
And saw the shadows I cast †
Dance Ďcross the willow pattern. †
†
And here they were, two lovers, †
Poets, Iíd seen before, meet †
Like babyís breath in crystal. †
†
The two sat close, side by side †
At the piano bench, bowed,
So still like a whisper, I ó †
†
And she graced the keys, singing †
To him, of love & heartís flight †
In the dear light from my shade. †
†
How honored, to be privy. †
As she turned to him, he smiled
To tell her she inspires. †
†
They noticed the light flicker. †
It was me, it was my heart; †
What I felt, was almost God. †

His Daddy

His daddy, gone for two months now,
Another trip for work
He loves his daddy anyhow
A childís love canít be irked

His birthday, yesterday, was sad
No word or package came
He was forgotten by his dad
Like last yearójust the same

Other boys are learning sports
Their fathers teach them well
He tries without his dad's support
And fails, a bitter hell

By eighth grade, expectations quelled
But hope still taunts his heart
He wears the mask that all is well
His soul is torn apart

Now in his college freshman year
Dad calls to ask, "You well?"
He struggles, fighting back a tear
And answers, "Go to hell!"

Canyons of your desolation

CHICKEN LOVE

Love is a game of chicken
Where nobody loses-
You just keep driving
Further and further
Into each other

INCREMENTAL SACRAMENT

You made space for me
To lie down and be adored,
And someday I will.
