Poetry Contest

Write your last poem
Write a poem as if it was your last. Can be any subject and word count as long as you’re happy with it.

Also I want you to post a link to one of your poems that you would like to be remembered.

One post per person.

I’m gonna judge off of both poems and decide which is my favorite submission.

Good luck everyone! 👽

Update: I’m noticing people are having problems posting in the same post. It’s ok to post your remembrance poem in a second post just make sure you identify the title of the second poem in your first post. That way it’ll be easy for me to keep track. sorry for any inconvenience. Keep the poems coming. Really enjoying them so far

Last and First

May there be wavelengths
Between our lips
Where white oleander
Bathes all scents anew
May it be spring
When all is tranquil
This ship will be leaving
For the first time
I will lay at Love's bossom
Hear his heart beat
In the core of time
And nomadic sand
Our feet
Entwined by our yearning
Balmic air from tourmaline moon
Our mortal casket sails
Beyond symetric skies
Watching poetry as a bird
Untill it sighs
Across arching stars
Now we are
Now I am
A word

My Last Poem

Goodbye sweetheart
Just a note to say
I loved your snoring
and the midnight fart
that's what I'll miss most
I'd wake up, hearing that you
were okay
I always knew it was a type of art
Goodbye sweetheart

Note
Remember me for "I Digress"

I digress

I digress
I was gardening
It is spring after all

I love husbandry,
sprouting life from seed
fostering grass
to a carpet
of accomplishment

There’s something therapeutic about
being occupied in fresh life

I find pruning and watering
compost and fertilizing
much like parenting really
You nourish
You nurture
You protect
They mature - they respond
with buds of colour
Strength in their trunks
Rich texture to their leaves

I digress
So I was gardening

An automobile which must have been
as old as the driver
white haired
crinkled skin
abrasive hands
broke down, outside my gate

Rattled it’s side panels
like a belly dancer’s
shimmy-shake
I love dancing
any dancing
I find rhythm and timing
movement and discipline
much like parenting really
You prepare
You practice
You perform
when it’s most needed
They laugh, sing
and learn from
the allegiance

I digress
So I was gardening

This gentleman
eighty in the shade
Gets out of his car
starts to try and push it
up the road

I do my running, jump and sprint
to assist
tell him
to get in to the car
I push this
vehicle up the road
to his house

We stop
We discuss things
things like
the cost of living
the petrol pump
on his car
(Its apparently no good
and he can’t find a new one)
We discuss his children
they changed their religion
then stopped talking to him
Not because he has issue
with the new faith
But because he won’t join theirs
[I think there is something in that]
We discuss his late wife
I see undying love in his eyes
as he speaks.

He offers me coffee
damn it’s
cheap instant
but it’s the best coffee
I’ve had in ages
There’s something
lovely about coffee made with care
I sip at it
he gulps it down

Gets up
opens the car bonnet
starts sucking petrol
out the fuel pump

I stand staring
He says

“You digress
you were gardening”

I love old people
There’s something liberating
in their raw honesty
the life they’ve lived
educates us
Much like parenting really

I digress
I was gardening

I love gardening
life happens
in a garden

The End

Words escape me,
The moment has come.
It’s easy to see,
I’m finally done.

Not able to go on,
No reason to fight.
This is my swan song,
I’ll no longer write.

The ink has run dry,
My writing pad is full.
There’s no reason to try,
And look like a fool.

So here’s my last poem,
Won’t see me again.
If some one asks, please show them,
For this is the end.

Rain

Storm starts brewing, soon rain will cum.
I prepare to be soaked, and even taste some.

Your passion is growing, your begging for more,
Your body is yearning, awaiting what's in store.

Your nipples react to my delicate touch,
Licking and sucking, I enjoy very much...

The way you moan, and look in my eyes,
I lick down your stomach, grasping your thighs.

Spreading your legs, I love what I see,
A wonderful, glistening, tasty pussy.

Sliding my finger, along your wet lips,
Your passion is evident, by the thrust of your hips.

Rubbing you slowly, and licking a bit,
You grab onto my head, as I suck on your clit.

Your legs wrap around me, in utter delight,
Your wetness is flowing, oh what a sight!

Licking and sucking, I slide a finger in your ass,
You're fucking my face, the moments coming fast.

Suddenly you errupt, totally insane!
I'm covered all over, in orgasmic rain.

Dear Me

Little crab, do you know how far you'll go?
I didn't either when I was your age
It was a big step for me to go into the unknown
But it was better than being trapped in a cage.

I know exactly how you felt when you looked out across the sea
You wondered if you would ever make it to the other side
I'm not quite there, but I'm a lot closer than it seems
Be prepared because it'll be one hell of a ride.

I'm sorry to say that you'll be disappointed and betrayed
There will be times where you'll wonder if you made the right choice
Take it from me, don't bottle up the pain
Trust in yourself and in the power of your voice.

Despite the bumps on the road, there's hope as well
The angels have told me that 2018 is the year of renewal
Little by little you'll learn to come out of your shell
A certain someone will visit your mind often, and it may surprise you.

You may believe yourself to be weak, but you're the strongest person I know
You're a stubborn crab; use your claws to hang on!
Trust in yourself and don't take as an answer"no"
Your instincts will tell you what's right and wrong.

Only in My Dreams

Only in my dreams am I truly at peace,
The moon is my constant companion;
My sweet Luna brings light to the darkest of nights,
Her soft glow lulls me to sleep.

Only in my dreams am I my true self,
I can be stripped of my dignity and face no persecution;
My body and soul are bared to be seen,
Yet I have no shame.

Only in my dreams am I truly happy,
My imagination reignites and runs wild;
My soul departs my body in search of adventure,
In the blink of an eye the universe is within my grasp.

Only in my dreams am I complete,
Love, peace and wisdom are the Holy Trinity;
Symbols flash before my eyes,
My mind translates their messages effortlessly.

Only in my dreams can I achieve anything,
Self-doubt and fear fade away into nothing;
I can be Superwoman, or I can be a dragon,
Or I could be at peace in your loving arms.

A Death Honored

While distance may soften its terrible blow
And covet the voices of all that I know.
To know of its coming did I not foresee
The folly, the flashpoint of what was to be.

A blinding, the instance its mark left behind,
Would never make up for the love that we'd find.
The way now has answers you hope to define,
With your declaration, its life to confine.

Short shrift it may seem of lovers' infusion,
Released from your fear its foregone conclusion.
And realize henceforth it's all that you'll need,
Will be yours as my gift the moment I'm freed.

Two Naked Poets

Within my nakedness implied
By words I whisper as I sit astride,
Entreat the heart for you to hold
The list of doubts to heal from & be whole.

The part I make myself most bare
Is put my trust in you & hope you care
Of all else that takes precedence
From these to try and finally make more sense.

You know yourself the risk I take;
It was with me you placed your trust to make,
And ever since that fateful day
Locked doors are flung aside to show the way.

'Twas early on when we first met
You told your story and then made a bet;
Of drink, abuse & suicide,
That keeping nothing from me I'd decide.

And in a flash I knew right then
I'd want to stay, & be more than your friend.
Each day I've been & stood my ground,
You've helped with answers to my story found.

Though we must sleep in separate beds
Denuded each of us from final threads,
We never judge our covered books
Instead we open wide to anxious looks.

To think of me a lover strong
Who often struggles when she gets it wrong,
But just like me you understand;
We do much more, two poets, hearts in hand.

In the end, it's all about the destination

7.30 train North to South,
carriages full of bankers heading to the smoke

a woman adjusts her make-up in a compact
draws a neat little cats-eye line on her lid,
the juddering of the rail makes it an art form.

I am already on my fifth brew of the day
came prepared with a silver flask
holding hot water and steaming tea,
my peppermint permeates the air
overrides the cheap coffee aroma
drifting from a graveyard of paper cups
strewn down the aisle.

It's where I'm headed-
to bury her

to bury a woman who's veins gave out
to bury a woman who's insanity ate her
from the inside...

the ellipsis would have killed me too
if I let it.

Trees feel like they are burning,
autumn flames beyond the window
my forehead pressed against glass,
I close my eyes counting heartbeats
of wheel against the iron track

one-two
              one-two
                             one-two

it pulses in my skull, migraines of change
and by the time we grind to a halt
the woman's face paint is perfect,
the bankers click their leather brogues
down the grime-trodden platform

I light a cigarette to welcome me home.

~

3.30 train South to North,
carriages full of tired men anchored to screens

I forgot to wear tear-proof mascara this morning,
I dab at my face eradicating black from my cheeks
and unlike my love of watercolour, it doesn't wash.

English rain arrived like I knew it would
I wear patent heels to the churchyard;
I should be studying her
I should be watching her final fall
deep into the floor, but I do not

I watch water slip over my shining shoes
and think about the metaphor.

I wonder what it would be like to sink,
to be lowered by clouds that brought me here
wonder if the rope bearers count
"one-two, one-two" earthing themselves
in meaning and preposition

I remember my Mother, her little finger
curling against my Father's [I think about you]
and how we're all dependent on something
all of us just waiting for a rhythm,
bones perhaps, a drop of blood
to build a wall around our memories

in solitude, our coffins are perfectly matched
right-angled in failure and descent,
madness gleaming with pearlescent silks
I paid for with bereavement
a few lost dreams perhaps

I light a cigarette to welcome me home.

Words of a Dying Poet

Darling, these are my last words before the pen will
Run out of ink or before the paper runs out of space.
The words that will no longer stay motionless or still.
This is like taking my last breath and when you trace
Over the words you will feel the whole world come
To back to life. You will feel the air within your lungs
And you will feel the tears coming, making you numb.
Will the legacy continue to be written on our tongues?
Will you remember me? Or maybe you will recall me
From another lifetime… the woman sitting in the corner
At a café, searching for inspiration. When one might see
All of the darkness, she sees the light. She is a mourner
For the deadness that surrounds us. She is I, possessing
The words of a dying poet. She is always the top tier
When you mocked her because she was expressing
Herself. You will be sorry when you no longer hear
The voice that shaped your thoughts. You will no
Longer be thinking that she is no one special. Trust
Me because she will be the lasting and lingering glow
After the party is over. She will still be in every gust
Of wind that blows your hair. She will be in every word
You try to copy. She is on the horizon as a flying bird.
