cold feet

Soon I'll step
another stone,
but for now the first
my bare feet hold.

Moss and growth
and green grew sweet
enough to hold
me still; so be it.

I ran so quick
the path I chose;
such solace is
this river-stone,

a place to rest
and feel the cold
alarming breath
the river blows -

and as the goosebumps
rise, the sun
comes out to soothe them
all at once.

I watch light dance
on the river's face,
return the smile,
aching to stay.

River, teach me
to run, and chase
with clarity -
to move in place.

Don't teach my daughter the line fuck the patriarchy,
It is just sounds, letters, it doesn't make change.
No,
Teach my daughter to discuss careers with female friends at school
Destined to think their end destination is being a mother and a good cook,
To share with those less fortunate in a proactive and thoughtful way.
Teach my daughter to encourage self forgiveness in herself and others, for things that are not a woman's fault,
Teach her to help her fellow warriors, and worriers, not accept blame for wanting a consumer lifestyle
When the media outlets, the films for little girls, the slogans
Teach being a princess, and looking lovely are so very, very important
And enable them to want more.
Teach her to educate herself, from as many resources as possible, to read, to speak, to travel, to take up space
And soak it up like a sponge.
Teach my daughter to love herself,
In each moment,
Despite the sorrow, the rage, the mundanity of her day,
Teach her to be kind to boys,
To allow them to be themselves
Despite what society tells them it is
To be a man
Teach her to share,
Her world, equally,
As a man should, and will, share his.
Teach her to love her body and cherish what is hers,
It deserves reverence.
No, don't teach my daughter to say fuck the patriarchy,
Rage only breeds rage,
Teach her humility,
Teach her life
Can be crushed under a palm
Or nurtured
With the gentleness of a person's fingertips.

Pain’s Recruits

Rotate the leaf to see the thorns
beneath the face turned to the sun
there you’ll find a secret font
waiting for a soul that hurts

the smallest spikes draw fresh blood
slicing skin once thought whole
dismemberment is not their goal
instead the harm is life restored

rivulets pressed into the flesh
they’ll leave a mark when held fast
this is desired when the world
would do much worst if allowed

distraction spun from nature’s bite
now temporary in the rush
forgetting comes from the depths
only visited, not permanent

the light shines far too bright
with a shame few would accept
now the shade offers aid
bleeding comfort from pain’s recruits.

And we're ( barely ) holding at 19!

Greetings, Poets! Welcome to DAY 18!

The Battle of Deep Underground, known to the members and participants as the Battle of the NaPoWriMo, and also commonly referred to as 'You Cannot Do It's'  Last Stand, is a penned engagement between combined forces of DUP Poets against the 7th, 8th, and 9th Cavalry Regiments of Schedules, Interruptions, and Time.

The battle, which will result in the defeat of those forces, is the most significant unified effort by a group of members in DUP history for the second year in a row!  It's taking place right here,  and you're a part of it!

For honor, for glory, for poetry!

Onward, Poets!

Detained diabolic depicters desist
Entrapped epic editors emit elegiac
Fiction friends federally facilitated forcefully
Genre generals grimly guarded gallingly
Hymnal haiku heroes hatefully held hereto
Interred improvisation interrogated
Jailhouse jingles jilted jest
Keepers keep Keats' keys kept kaput
Lyrical legends languish longingly labyrinths
Mandela manuscripts metaphorical mistreatment
Notebook names now nailed notoriously
Odes offend of obvious oppression
Perpetual prison penning painful puns
Quarantined quotes questionable quartered

Satires serve severe solitary sentences
Translated themes tortured tenuously torment
Unpublished unrhymed uttered underground unheard
Verses verse violent vehement vaults vaingloriously
Written words woefully wardened without windows
Youthful Yeats yields yearning years
Zen zones zero zeal

Prisoner 2339

They call her Bazooka
Her tits
are so big, you could
load the entire
kitchen mess
on them
and it would balance
quite
comfortably

Bazooka walks around like
she's housing
the entire
erotica section
under her
arm pits
[It's one of those things
once you've seen it, you can't unsee it]

In the first section
closest to the wash room
are the women
who write
love stories
like they're
text messages
on a WhatsApp group
One emoji in a poem
and section one's
gates
will slam shut
on your ass
Bazooka doesn't seem
to angry
at them, though
I'm sure it's the
wide range of lace thongs
that keeps her smiling

In section two
are the masochists
Damn I'm glad I missed that!
One missing line break
and Bazooka
will tie your ankles
to the cell gates
Use your own leather
on your skin
'till you
remember the
safe word
or
age restriction

I'm prissoner 2339
Nestled in section three
all on my own
Beaten twice daily
often suffocated
Frankly
I take it back
I take back
my ridiculous
use
of the word
"AND"

Now will someone
tell Bazooka
it's not
that bad
and...

;)

18. Prison : Write about DUP as a prison colony warehousing the most heinous poets serving run on sentences for their literary crimes against the Humanities. Madame Warden takes no shit from anyone.

Deep Passage
(villanelle)
formule poésie érotique 18/30

Your wells, your cataracts, my thrills decree.
By your awakened banks, my craft persuade,
Engulf me, in your swollen waves, drown me.

Its onset brought unplanned discovery,
Such majesty, no pilgrim could evade,
Your wells, your cataracts, my thrills decree.

Your valley beckons my hard company,
I will forever seek your sweet crusade,
Engulf me in your swollen waves, drown me.

Waist deep, the boat and rider’s path foresee,
How oar’s thrust moves, receiving flow invade,
Your wells, your cataracts, my thrill’s decree.

Prow’s push, your channel’s gate first splits, then free
In sluicing rapids pounding cavalcade,
Engulf me in your swollen waves, drown me.

Concluding end, hard pressed in revelry
I turn, in man and boat your thrill conveyed,
Your wells, your cataracts, my thrills’ decree,
Engulf me in your swollen waves, drown me.

Cutting Remarks      - - - - (18 / 30)

Razor flush against firm flesh
Cut flesh before family ties
You are a freak, good for nothing
Easily fleeced of your freedom
By predators who will just take
Alone in a darkened room
You sit in your own pile of shit
Despite no real bowel movement
Your eating disorders doing harm
You seldomly look in the mirror
You wonder when you got so ugly
The voices in your head get to work
They tell you that you are fat, ugly,
Stupid, worthless and just too weak
Your chosen predator agrees with them
He tells you he loves you but your broken
In your mind, your body and your soul
All he really wants from you is fuck and suck
The room closes in the demons come
He's drunk and passed out in the other room
All the hurt and pain from your entire life
Visits you in order to point and laugh
You feel worthless and unliveable
You don't even believe your own mind
Your mind is active but beaten down
It knows how special and pretty you are
It knows you are smart and talented
It realises toxic people need removed
It screams at you not to listen to the voices
But the voices bellow much, much louder
You become an emotional boiling kettle
The pressure continues to build and build
It becomes overwhelming, unbearable
Yet again the Razor flush against firm flesh
You have to try and release some pressure
The razor cuts with that burning sensation
One cut is never ever enough, you do more
Six times the razor sears your flesh, blood flows
Kitchen towels to mop up and stop the bleeding
Unfortunately the only thing that has changed
Is that you have 6 more scars to try and hide
The demons point at you and laugh heartily
Well let's face it they did an excellent job
The voices in your head sing a new song
About you being so mega stupid to cut
Your own flesh six time and how easy you were
I cut myself three times with my own razor
Representing family members to disown
And as a result of a promise made
I felt no better I just felt lost
Is that how it is with you
Lonely, depressed and lost
Let me help you put your burdens down
You are worth much more than you realise
Let all razors be blunted and rusted
Let the voices and demons fall silent
There is only one real cure
The love of another
How cares for you more than himself
Who puts you and your needs first
Who is always loving and caring
Someone you never need to fear
Someone who won't abandon you
Someone who'll take good care of  your heart and soul
A person that makes you feel special
A person the recognises your beauty
Search carefully never settle for second best
You are a cut above;  you just don't know it yet

Child’s Ghosts

Only a child
trusts, believes
heart open
potentials weave

when raised
in shadow’s room
chances limited
for reaching bloom
still holds tightly
to dying light
surviving always
through darkest night

struggling will
not at fault
licking wounds
pressed with salt

innocence lost
pain real
moments pass
no time to heal
little girl gone
grown premature
weathering life
woman unsure

picking up pieces
enduring at most
clinging to hope
of a child’s ghost

A c c e p t a n c e

Applauded and embraced for
who you are
what you do
day in
day out

more often than not
by virtue of your
absence from screenplays;

simply meaning
to others
you barely exist;
one of the many extras
in movies they are
the stars of

So
upon meeting someone who
invests a deep personal interest
in you
your lifestyle
consider it the equivalent of
winning the lottery

finding a shiny, golden ticket
in the chocolate bar's wrapper

though
it be imperative to understand
there is never any luck involved

My good fortune was being
approached by my leading lady

meeting me halfway
from across the stage
joining arm in arm

In her acceptance of me

in my acceptance of her

together, we
would like to accept this award
on behalf of True Love
everywhere

Anatomy of Loss

IX

.ii

The art of letting go
takes lifetimes to master

Obsessive thoughts linger--
swelling into anger
their toxicity spreading

There are no redos in life
no moments backtracking
into a milk and honey life

Only the circular trek of walking
a broken compass of past circumstance

The lonely frequent often
desserts of forgotten years
paying homage to what ifs

Plotting vicious revenge
competitive gossiping
playing victim to their own choice

Starving the Spirit raw
until nothing but bones

What then becomes of them
their lying tongue, betraying heart
nomadic tribes of cliques

They evolve in their own time
with help from those who've lived
and overcame in Love

. . .

Generation(s)  *18/30

A darkness is witness’d; forces await,
Who ne’er know that they were blind’d of sight.
Although, ‘twas always their destiny, fate,
Had wandering mind, to seek out the light.

A world, a universe within this blight,
Of which their minion birth’d cannot compare.
The twilight that they know both day & night,
The stars send them clues to breathe in like air!

Shrivel’d pale orbs, useless were, over time,
Space travel’ing from the brain through the void.
‘All is lost’ is not the slope that they climb,
To champion that life shall ne’er be destroy’d.

Instead of hatred you think that they know,
The force instead is filled with empathy.
A gift to human thought begins to grow,
And loving that goes beyond chemistry.

Flight to Neverland

The time is here the time is now to go to never land
You no longer need your earthly shells come take me by the hand
The worlds a mess and covered by ocean so there’s no place to be
Mother Nature is reclaiming her roots and covers all by her sea
So come to neverland where you will never grow a day
Where you can be young and spry for forever and a day
Going on adventures with all the lost boys and my friend Peter too
He knows all of the sights to see and all the fun things to do
No need to think on your watery graves that you’ll leave far behind
We’ll dance and sing the night away with others of your kind
Come now darlings the moon is full and there’s no better chance
For us to see the way and to get to others in the dance
Come now Peter’s waiting and I told him we’d be there
For even though he never ages he hasn’t he time to spare
He still has to evade Cap’n Hook with every turn he makes
So come on now and hurry up we have no time for breaks
It’s off to neverland where we will all be youthful for good
Where you can learn to enjoy life as a reward just like you should

Kitty Walk

(NaPo #19, April 19, 2018)

Step lightly
on toes
and furry kitty feet;
whiskers whisper
nuzzle-love,
in the sun--
Springtime hums along !

Sniff-a-sniff
ah, delight!
Bees a-buzz
Birds a-flight
catmint reaches for the skies,
makes for drowsy kitty eyes.

Scritchy-scratch
trees and grass
under paws--
warmth, at last!

Here come breezes,
wispy wafts
of dandilion haze--
run and chase
Tumble, roll
the flowers go
smiling at the brush of fur
on stems and petals,
now we purr.

Tip-a-toe
kitties go
through the lazy days;
tails a-peak
swish and fro
the Earth is ours, always.
