Hypnagogia

To what life
will you lead me
leafily,
Oh, October bush guide
of post-equinox fading shades?

Sunk in the cornflower
behind the sun;
I'll make meals from
rich dusks
fostered fondly in the feeling
though not on draughts
from sapphire wines
(or strange grapevines...)

Yes,
I am "sitting comfortably"
though you stand so clamped
on a puzzling hose
A hallway into further
vaporous grays?

Remote limpid life
in tones of a wizard's cloak
a haunt of gaunt air
in me awoke

On the cusp of a trance...
my roots danced;
in these visions
it spoke

I don't disbelieve in fateful coincidences. I began this as another addition to a "Album Cover" competition, musing on a piece of strange and wonderful art that I love to stare at as a kid. My dad listened to the Moody Blues with me a TON, and On The Threshold Of A Dream was his favorite, and consequently, mine. It's sentimentality here at it's finest. I'm not going to lie, this whole thing has made me stupidly emotional. I began writing this on January 4th, it's taken me 4 days to complete. Ray Thomas (founding member) passed away on the 4th. MBs are renown for their weird and wonderfulness, and I believe some of that magic found it's place in my heart this week and led me to this. *Please search 'Hypnagogia' if you're unsure of what it means.

Whipped Cream and Other Delights

I think it was back in nineteen eighty,
Perhaps as early as nineteen seventy-nine,
When my uncle used to play this kind of music,
From another decade way before my time.

And though I didn’t truly comprehend it,
The image really stuck in my mind,
And that particular childhood memory,
Influenced me to be musically inclined.

Now that I’m a grown man and look back,
I’ve come to identify how it made me feel,
Something so classy was also suggestive,
An album cover with so much sex appeal.

Her dress looked like it’s made of whip cream,
Her arms and shoulders were bare,
The way she touched her lips like a dream,
With a creamy white bow on her hair.

But most of all it was her tempting gaze,
Expressing her captivating femininity,
A truly delicious and delectable sight,
As I began to discover my affinity.

Late in my teens I realized my attraction,
I began to understand and love jazz,
And all due to childhood memories,
Of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.

Congrats to the winners! Atomik, Missy and Starlight--great job, really made the reader feel like they were part of the album art; fantastic writes that have a surreal quality to them that pull you into the picture.

Honorable mention shout out to  WallyRoo--such a memorable album cover, I remember that one vividly as a kid in the early 70's, being both fascinated by the look of it as almost an oil painting and somewhat shocked that the cream was all she was wearing.

Everyone else, great entries and thanks for joining in!
