Poetry Contest

State your cause, make us care!
Petition your passion for something that matters deeply to you. State your heart, do it with beauty. Season your verses well, make it kick. Politics, current events, humanities, demographic well-being, global tensions.... even religion. Whatever it is, even if myself or others aren't of the same ideals, make us consider your beliefs in new light.

-One entry only.

-New and old writes (but preferably new, unless you've already got a heavy hitter in mind, I'm not discriminating regarding timeline).

-Collabs encouraged! This is a good one for teams.

-No length cap, say it with much, or say it with little. Just say it well.

-Picture inclusions encouraged

-Tasteful profanity appreciated, if fitting

-We're a respectable bunch, but for clarity's sake, no overt animosity tolerated. No dovetailing a previous entry with a blatant debate. It's not the debate team, and we're better than that

HIT ME!

The Idiotic Case Of The Revolutionary Movement

Magellan shouts "Eureka!" at the Pearl of The Orient
where he was eaten by a Fish — would you look at that?
And for three hundred years, motherland was raped
by horny priests — and we knelt and prayed as we slaved!

Earned our freedom to whose credit? Bonifacio, Aguinaldo, Rizal?
Or the United States of America who gave their "blessing" only to
be trapped in the horror of their defeat to the Japanese
who raped our women — and we sing, and dance, and craved for their sons!

Succession of Presidents, battling the challenge of Independence
and when we found someone worthy, that someone was rumored
to be assassinated by C. I. A. for not supporting pro-foreign policy
and so we keep electing puppets, supposedly — and we buried them in heroes' graves

We suffered under the rule of tyranny, for a couple of decades
we endured and was suppressed, and subsequently fought and won
seemingly by unified action against, but really, the design of oligarchs
who ruled under the shadow of a mother who knows nothing about politics.

We fought, gain victories, only to be disappointed, and we fought and gain
victories again, over and over, until the very same causes becomes the object
of the present generation's irritability — for causing traffic, for being repetitive
and then Facebook was developed and so were the online warriors — and fake news!

A system was born — rotten to the core — and we keep stacking up tomatoes
freshly harvested over at the top to keep appearance while corrupting
the heart and mind of those added to the crate, and we consume and digest
only because, we have been starving for something, someone, but we do not know what.

And we will keep on fighting — for what we lack in cunning — we make up for bravery
We may be hopeful fools, but we are not stupid, we may be wounded, but we are resilient
and as we continue to struggle as a nation, we will continue to grow our roots
in a soil that is rich, and we would nurture newborns that would refuse the crate of decay.

Challenge

Challenge

I challenge you to come out of your box,
To make a move that is not in your character to make

I challenge you to make a choice where the risk outweighs the benefits

I challenge you to be the best of the worst of yourself,
For your words to have substance and to last through time

I challenge you to go the full length of the day without a single lie,
Not even the most insignificant, harmless tall tale, can you be honest?

I challenge you to speak your mind,
For your honesty to be relentless and without fear

I challenge you to bite your tongue,
Silencing your small-minded opinions, minimizing your ignorance’s,
Canceling the stupidity of your gossips

I challenge you to forsake your friends and family,
Step away from their comfort and security,
Stand alone on your own identity, as no more than a single mark on a blank sheet of paper,
Can you survive if they don’t approve of who you are?
Could you continue your existence if they suddenly casted you away?

I challenge you to be yourself, unwavering, stead-fast, and true
To be incorruptible to the closet alliances

In challenging you I challenge myself,
To be without fear of these nouns of our world, our lives, our future

Will we meet this challenge?
And if we do can we continue with consistency?
Or will we simply be lost to this impossibility?

The Royals vs the poet's realm

Of splendid thrones of gold
or treasures manifold

Of jewelled caskets
or lavish banquets

Of Emirs and rajahs
Of Sultan and Shahs

Of kings and queens
Of rulers and emperors

Of sparkling crowns
or flowing gowns

Of their subservient stewards and obedient pages
Of their stalwart squires and servile knaves

Of poor humble, docile minions
who tended to regal pavilions
And obeisantly carried royal palanquins
Oh and some were real life harlequins

Of castles and palaces
of abounding gold and silver
in ostentatious regal splendour

The sidelined fanning maids in waiting
Yet to me only one thing worth noticing
The minstrels who came to sing
from afar for the queen and king

For I'd rather be a poetess for kings
so to my tunes swayed a kingdom
than I be the king of mere subjects
and be filled with regal boredom!

So I could join ranks of
troubadours
and sing for the king
some folklores.

A passion for poesy
For magic of literacy [/b]

We are divided

We are divided.
As a country as a culture
we are divided.
As a country and a culture
standing opposite of each other
we are divided.

Whatever words used to describe us
Compassionate, chill, peaceful
Ill, Irrational, retarded
Whatever adjective we feel like prescribing us
What the hell does it mean,
When we have people getting high, popping pills,
And blaming each other on both sides of the aisle.
We are divided.

There are cracks in the sidewalk and a crowd of police
Drawing outlines in chalk, sounding the sirens of peace.
Witnesses saying "Yup, that filthy neighbor's a creep."
My neighbor, sup neighbor,
Neighbor what, neighbor please,
Every day another neighbor be
Shooting and stealing, stabbing, killing, raping and praising something I don't believe.
This entire neighborhood is full of them.
Fucking neighbors need to leave.
We are divided.

Powerful influences exploit the goodness inside of us,
They're razing our world, and raising a society of masochists.
They've been campaigning this massive war of the classes,
Passing down power as every century passes us.

We're a future in chaos in need of world order,
Controlling the access so we can never afford
Basic rights,
Basic freedoms,
And a basic meaning to living.
Basically we're meant to believe in the spirit of giving.

So we're giving our earnings and hopefully trusting
In the poverty fueling machine it's disgusting.
There's over sixteen digits worth of value in humanity
And I'm born to struggle for my own fried slice of reality.
We are divided.

Not by birth, not by choice.
Not by class, race, gender, politics or wealth.

Rejoice,
for we are divided but not blind,
It's possible that we can see who's behind it.
Just ask,
"Is this really important what's going on over here?
"Or is there maybe an influence hiding out over there?"

We are misguided.
I pray for a day when we no longer need reminding
Of the real hidden evils
Who want to keep us divided.

It's just a matter fact,
We need to spread this message exact,
And understand what it means to believe in 'equality'.
Please.
No more abuse of the system,
Lets take back the keys to our kingdom,
And trust in the goodness that resides here within us.
Stay alive for the children.
