Yet, you didn't congratulate Daniel. Instead, you launched into me attempting to rationally explain ( vs argue ) why Crimsin was justified in questioning a violation of comp guidelines.
I'll say it again ( for the last time ). This is a site-sponsored comp, and Jennifer is a host. As a site-sponsored comp everyone is encouraged to participate and share their opinions and suggestions ( and ensuing discussions ) without being accused of nitpicking bullshit or accosted as to why they're expressing themselves over a valid point. I mean they're certainly expected to nominate, follow guidelines, and vote, aren't they? But not have an opinion or question when they think something is amiss?
Is that fair?
For the record, I never said a word about your poetry. I merely noted how fascinating your altering style of writing style is ( and it is ). Take now, for an example: all of a sudden ( after me pointing out you rarely use punctuation in your comments ) this response ( unlike others ) clearly lacks punctuation.
Anyway, noting that is no different from noting a change in avatar. But you are right in that it had nothing to do with PotM.

I'm sad this has occurred I really do enjoy's Daniel's poetry but he's a smart guy you are all smart people...people knew rules were being violated I believe and they were simply ignored my feelings are hurt by you Missy I know you don't like me...blocking me for no apparent reason I remember days on this site you weren't so liked I had compassion for you...anyway I didn't know poem of the month was such a site political thing but apparently it is...some have to follow rules while the good old boys club doesn't... how very clicky...

"NOTE: The Spoken Word of the Month comp is here:
https://deepundergroundpoetry.com/forum/competitions/read/11384/
Because the vote for this com is anonymous, and spoken word pieces cannot be anonymous due to avatars and voices, we would prefer you nominate those pieces in the appropriate comp above so that voting remains fair."
My take:
I think the key word here is "prefer"
Several hard rules were listed; "No DUPLICATES, You may nominate only THREE poems from THREE different DU members, Self nominations are not accepted" ...point being, nowhere was it specifically stated that you cannot nominate spoken word pieces and that they will be disqualified. The host simply preferred you didn't nominate them, ...which doesn't necessarily mean you couldn't & your nomination will be disqualified.

i am not part of the OLD GUARD i am just a new kid on the block.
now my autistic view is this, Crimsin was correct this thread title does not in any way mention spoken word in the title.
though the rules don't mention you cant nominate spoken word, which was pointed out earlier in this conversation, why have a separate competition.
up till now since i have been a member i call myself that since i am a site supporter.i digress up till now the spirit of the competition has been adhered to, im sure you all will round on me if it hurts your personal pride, but as far as i am aware no spoken word had been entered into this competition before, i assuming not ever in the years since it started if i am wrong then correct me.
what i am saying it was already taken as gospel you dont enter spoken word here, you know an unwritten rule.
this bullshit about about the poem being written makes it ok
flaunting loopholes grey areas when you know their there isnt right in any part of life.
here's a warning..... anyone taking a personal swipe at me for my opinion
think very carefully i served my country in armed forces and currently been a front line colleague in the health service for 17 yrs so ive earned the right to free speech

Crim... I’m not even dignifying that with a response because it’s utter twaddle.
Secondly... we are going on here like the rules were deliberately flouted. We seem to be forgetting (almost entirely) that this is a public voting comp, and clearly people voted for it because they liked it.
If you wanna blame somebody, blame everybody that voted (which by the way I no longer vote on comps because then I get accused of fixing shit so I can’t do right for doing wrong) because they’re clearly not too clear on the “rules” either. They were just voting for good poetry. And that’s what grinds my gears. The voice of the people is being over ruled.

Now that the problem has been brought to the Public's attention and has been clearly and eloquently explained, the path is clear going forward.
If Spoken Word with its un-anonymous avatars are allowed in POTM, then it's not a fair comp as long as anonymous voting is concerned. That people will vote for their friends rather than read all the poems and vote for the best is a reality and a valid concern.
If this turns you off, don't participate until the rules are shored up. Pass this information along to any Newbs to DUP who aren't familiar with it.
If the rules aren't shored up to disallow such and this doesn't turn you off, carry on with your voting.
And perhaps the Webmiss can whip up an alternative solution with her coding magic in the future.
Have a nice day.

it makes perfect sense a competition which is supposed to be anonymous shouldn't have a link which leads to the author. if this is the case the entry should have been disqualified
there's no fault here, or any written rule which prohibits the use of spoken word. there is, as our autistic friend pointed out 'an unwritten rule' because common sense (anonymity)
I do also believe 'a poem is a poem' which was pointed out by my esteemed colleague. I see no reason a spoken word could not be entered here if anonymity wasn't compromised, if that is the case with the said entry then happy days, well done good fellow
anonymity is a core part of this comp. we need to protect the integrity of it. if it was compromised then we need to figure out how to proceed from here. I would suggest:
A. award the trophy to the entry which came second
B. see A
I would add, it gives me no pleasure to suggest A, personally I believe the entry deserved to win.

Before a code, which would award the rightful winner of these comps was created, the nominator would be awarded until Webmiss could come in an award the trophy to the rightful winner. One of the most noble things I've witnessed here on DU was * cough someone cough * relinquishing a trophy because they witnessed how much it meant to the nominator ( who thought they actually won because they were initially awarded the trophy, not realizing it it was their nomination that won ).
It's a shame that wasn't repeated here as a show of honor.
An enormous amount of time, energy, and code has gone into these monthly comps over the years to preserve the integrity and anonymity of voting, as well as increase ease of function so as not to award the wrong member, and so forth.
Collin, you are right regarding certain members highlighting the grey areas to justify this win. It's been an honor system to not nominate spoken word for this competition, and all entries ( up to this month ) have been removed by the host contacting the person who nominated it by asking they replace it with a qualified entry; and/or, making a public announcement as a reminder no spoken word is allowed.
Craic, I agree that a rightful winner should be awarded, and the voting anonymity of this competition be upheld. A poem is a poem unless it's a spoken word which violated anonymity by splashing a face and voice all over it.
Crimsin, I am sorry you were made to feel the way you feel. I can assure you this was not the original intent of these competitions when developed. On the contrary, while we knew there would be kinks to work out, these comps were developed to bring membership together; we never imagined there would be such discord on the board by varying factions.
Johnny, I agree. I have requested to know if some code can be developed which would prevent the nomination of spoken word in this competition once and for all. Whether or not that is possible would be up to Webmiss, but she does seem to work magic with code.

That's exactly what I'm saying here Lep.

Because it is linked here directly from his profile it only shows the spoken word. A better way of entering it would have been to copy and paste the text in. Too late on this comp now though.
If it is just the written poem entered not the audio, it is as valid an entry as the other written entries and will be anonymous, so not "bullshit"

You know, that provokes a stellar idea. If a spoken word piece is going to be nominated, perhaps the poet can temporarily remove the video link from their page until after the voting? Or, perhaps right before the competition ends? Something like that. I dunno.
Maybe Webmiss can even implement something along the lines in this comp which could prevent video links. That would solve the issue completely by allowing only the written word to be nominated. That would solve everything.
