Self-Love Haiku Challenge
Anonymous
Poetry Contest Description
A self-love haiku positivity challenge
The inspiration for this competition is from the fact I’m taking part in an advent self-love challenge at the moment with other women, which is something I’m doing wholly for me.
For this competition, I would like you to submit a collection of 5 haikus (5-7-5), each with the following themes, reflecting on your 2018:
1) An achievement
2) A happy moment
3) A lesson you’ve learned
4) A proud moment
5) Your wish for the future
Rules
* Submit all 5 haikus in one post, simply numbered 1 - 5
* The haikus should reflect you looking back over 2018.
* Please title your collection with one positive word that you think summarises you this year.
* This competition is open to everybody.
Any questions, please PM me.
💚

Freedom
i.
Pushing the limits
Of sonic self expression;
The sound dimension.
ii.
Was I happy though?
Moments of bliss sure, although
A challenging year.
iii.
A true test of strength,
A lesson of gratefulness,
and grateful I am.
iv.
Proud of all of us
for staying strong though this year
has just felt so long.
v.
Wishing for freedom,
freedom for them from their pain,
test of sanity.

Awakening
( 20 Haiku 18 )
一
like the wild horses
through drought & wildfire storms
I become the rain
二
one pain left behind
for a moment or a day
I taste the morning
三
wind brings clouds & goes
a year of seasons’ blessings
for each day I feel
四
first year without Dad
the day of Thanksgiving comes
still leaves on the trees
五
to walk in the sand
feeling moon’s tide lick my feet
and not be dreaming
Please refer to my Author’s Notes.

Discovery
1.
Washing and scrubbing
All the errant tears.
I am smiling through it all.
2.
Endless miles of sky
Above my head with sunshine
And lots of laughter.
3.
I follow the path
And find home within myself.
There lies my beauty.
4.
Like the growing weeds
I cut away the toxins
and I am home free.
5.
A world we live in
With less pain and broken love.
We can live and learn.

All the errant tears.
I am smiling through it all.

Change
I.
(An achievement)
Miles beneath my heels
Discipline in consumption
I am becoming
..
II.
(A happy moment)
Wind song on water
Sunlight on my upturned face
A seed of wild hope
..
III.
(A lesson I’ve learned)
Self love is central
Still radiating outwards
Ecstasy of pain
..
IV.
(A proud moment)
I teach you English
Amidst our conversations
You teach me of peace
..
V.
(My wish for the future)
Versatility
A touch of unflinching warmth
Rough hewn horizons

Refining
1. Achievement
I became content
with things I could not change
but changed what I could,
2. Happy Moment
yet, my brave daughter
found what I thought I had, once
and became engaged.
3. Lesson Learned
Strange, daughters, can be—
much like ourselves, though foreign;
tread lightly, with care,
4. Proud Moment
but then she forgives
and becomes my child again
and our hearts are well.
5. Wish for the Future
Let me not lose her
too much, when I gain a son,
as she walks the aisle.

Five- Cinq- Cinco
I
I’ve passed through five years
Of hardships and betrayal
Yet I’m still alive.
II
Love makes my soul soar
I’ve finally found my half
And he’s here to stay.
III
Always trust my gut
It’ll never lie to me
Give it your best shot.
IV
I’ve beaten the odds
I’m now closer to my goal
Just a bit longer.
V
God, keep my head high
And my soul free from worries
I long for success.
