Between days

Going between the hills
and the early night
and the pockets of sky glitter
allowed by tomorrows rain,
are a million wishes, held up high
to catch the last glint
of the long, low light
that fails between days.

The lucky wishes are those that shine
with turn of phrase - then, packed
for transit into gold and leather purses
are sent to ride on the broad backs
of skyhorses -
immaculate and white, with
deep steamy lungs and faraway wings,
our hopes and dreams each night
are set loose thus.

Going between light
and dark -
carried by the thundering hooves, sounding
like distant artillery, shooting
the open sky - are aspirations
of love, honour and progress -
charged to deliver tomorrow.
These narrow dreams are carried
up to Golgotha
to find a release, as we
each call aloud to heaven.

your words here have dreamy feel i particularly loved the second stanza, lucky wishes packed into shiny purses and carried on flying horses, is classy stuff.I can almost see here musing in the night Steven. Lovely!

Fine classical imagery permeates this lovely, textured piece of verse. I agree with Priya, the second verse is an absolute smasher!
