Mixed Race Marriage

I have a mixed race marriage
and a truly cosmopolitan life
in this 'one world' -
where we share facts of history
but argue on perception

My alcoholic brother in law
has news, he tells me the holocaust
has been exaggerated.
He tells me a new truth -
volunteering belief.

His friends call him 'Indian',
but he hails from Jehlum, Pakistan.
He tells me he's a Muslim, while
drinking my whisky and eating
'Hot dogs' at the stall.

He tells me
an unofficial truth
of the minaret. A truth that
flows from glittering stars, down
into shoeless rooms.

He tells me
a truth that is
gossiped into fact. Even clarifying
my own history - A revelation of
new perception.

He believes all this as truth
and doesn't mean me any harm.
My new brother from Pakistan -
but born and raised in Bristol
is unquestionably a nice guy.

...topic which you have handled very skillfully, Steven. Highlighting race and religion then blending it with exotic undertones is tricky with a capital T. Your description of the minaret was fine imagery indeed and I'm delighted to tell you it's going on my list.

and not pick the bunches of yours that deserve one.
this one is just great and will do nicely.
most writers couldn't recover from a title like that,
but it's exactly what it says, all those details of life
just running around loose. very well said. maybe the reason
i like so many of yours is that they're how i'd like to do
them... (those egos run wild in the steppes)
