A little speck of Agoraphobia

I'm feeling the greenness
of a half smile
twist across my face
like an admission of guilt
I'm hurting
for no reason
which I know is
the worst reason of all.

Don't think.

The process is automatic
pilotless is always best
there are no rocks in my road
save those I have laid down
for myself.

The paint is peeling
on that door
and two weeks is long enough
not to turn the handle
it's smooth and made from cheap
Chinese brass
but I know that doesn't matter
it's only frantic thinking
deflecting me
away from the hardest task.

So for this moment
I prefer to attend to
these specks on the carpet
they are soothing me
with their calm importance
and I know that dust
can fly in on the wind.
