Danse Macabre

A dancer in the driven rain
A lost one seeking shelter
Voices carried on the wind
Tell her the night might well provide

Academy walls are painted crimson
And certain shadows lack a cause
Instruction stern and unforgiving
One false step the dancer falls

The whispers encourage exploration
A susurrus down the halls
The shadows pool around her, watching
Their voices carry an ancient song

The music grows cacophonous
Demons beckon and call
The structure crumbles swiftly
Spells lost in a darker sky

She pales further as they echo
And feels the pull of strings
The night has so much more to teach
A dancer in the crimson rain.
