In Which You Are Her Lover, But You Couldn't Love Her

I don't think you could ever love me.
I don't mean this dramatically,
I'm not saying you wronged me.
This is noone's fault.

But you grew starry eyed when I read you my poetry and blank eyed when I told you about my day,
And that's when I knew you didn't love me.

You loved the idea of loving a girl half lost to a world you could never touch,
But the reality hurt you too much
Of knowing that while you can be the love in the moment, something that wasn't even physical was the love of my life.

When I'd sing you a song or show you a piece of writing, you'd whisper hoe beautiful I was when I was entranced, excited.
But when the music's left and my poetry's left me sobbing you're nowhere to be found.

It's not that you don't try
(Lord, how you try)
But we were never meant to be more than friends,
Because even as you're in my body,
You won't be in my head,
Instead there's a song there,
Lyrics I'll always love more than you
And as much as you try, you just don't know how to handle that.

And fuck, how I've tried to love you
Because God, you're important to me,
But when you kiss me and for that moment I'm yours,
But the next im wondering how to put 'his kiss felt like bliss' in a poem,
Selfishly I admit I'm in love with the experience, and in like with you, and that's simply not good enough for me to ask you to stay with me.
