The Great Depression

Letters to my Grandfather.

Dearly beloved
Severely Missed, prematurely departed.
Even though you're gone,
We think of you often
Reminiscences still fondly linger in our hearts and thoughts
Never forgotten

Dear Oupa Fred
Where do we even begin
How does this paper and ink
Even begin to capture the feelings within
The context it's in

There so much to share
So many stories to tell
Three families worth, since you left
Hope you have a few minutes to spare.

Grandma talks of you often
Alot more than she did before to be honest
Which is heart warming because
Her loyalty to you is an example to us all

A Trait which unfortunately
Never spawned in any one of your offspring
Though the seed was planted, it was stillborn
Each family standing for thier own cause.

Fighting thier own wars
Divided and easily conquered
But yet and still stubbornly they still March onward
Speaking in different tongues
Barking confusing orders
Like the people of babylon
The tower will eventually come down falling

Maybe if you were still alive things wouldn't have gone this far
But you aren't and this is where we are
I can't help but wonder where you are
Are you watching over us,
From how near or how far...

Sometimes i cant help but travel back in time
If only with my heart and mind
Recollecting the things which we lost along the way
Only to stumble once again across that fateful day

When you had to leave us in haste
When God lead you by the waist
On the final journey, Peter opened up the gates
May your soul find peace here, this is all I Pray...
