she has nightmares
of seeing him lying there
reaching for her, with
his eyes searching
machines and tubes
everywhere
she barely has room to hold his hand
which she
presses to her face and lips
but his hand is limp
he can't move
but he can feel
and none of it makes sense
and even with her standing there
trying to give him all her strength
he is slipping away
and all she wanted to do
was rip him free
and hold him one last time
