Greenwood Graves (rough draft)

the vines weave their way along the ground
between the tombstones
blanketing those beneath the earth
in their warm embrace
though the town is dead and devoid of sound
songs of years gone by
dance through the air verse by verse
an enchanting sound
i walk carefully between the graves
mindful of where my feet are laid
silently wishing to be there with you
wishing to be in your arms safe from harm
and be your lover true
i was there the night that you died
amid the screams and all of those flashing lights
i was there the night that they laid you to rest
so far from my arms as you lungs breathed their last
so i walk through the graves looking for where you lay
a bouquet of roses clutched my hands in place of the words i could never say...
