Lilacs

I sent you a lilac
in a dream
I had this afternoon,

They're pretty simple,
and simply pretty
in a garden
or in the woods,

Their embracing twigs
and hearts of leaf
sweeps air
of an indigo bloom,

The lilac — it is
the kiss of sweet
that wakes the earth’s perfume,
beautiful to eternity,

I sent you a lilac
in a dream
I had this afternoon.
