TOMFOOLERY

I tried a diamond  ring round your finger
But you held out for a band of black coal
Married to the memories that linger
In the boarded up tavern of your soul

I lit a lamp to help you find your way
But this guide's tour you didn't want to see
As your heart turned blind and started to stray
Miles away from roses and reverie

Chorus

There's a little girl inside who you  put  under lock and key
Like long lost family heirlooms and favorite jewelry
You let her out for air once and she sang like a chickadee
The lady I fell in love with calling me Tom Foolery

Didn't want you sliding off the bar stool
On to a hard floor of pain and regret
But last call tolled for only this damned fool
Left with the love of his life to forget

You can play heartbreak songs on the jukebox
Working from budweisers to the top shelf
As drunks stir their lines with lies on the rocks
In the end you can only blame yourself

Repeat chorus
