Forever my baby

Today, 17 years ago
an unexpected present
came from the heavens.
With big cheeks,
big eyes,
and a beautiful smile
my angel baby sister
became a part of my life.

I've seen her grow from a baby,
to a girl,
to the young woman she is today,
but my eyes will always recall
the baby I used to hold.

She says I'm her role model,
She says I'm all she aspires to be,
but baby girl, if only you would know
that is you who I wish I could aspire to be.

Her heart is a gold mine
and her soul is love.
But she doesn't see the greatness she holds.
She the type of girl to brighten up a room
Everyone but her can see her total worth.

As an older sister I play the strong role,
protecting my baby sister is the first and most important of all.
As sad, stressed or homesick as I in college might be,
she will never know
because to be her rock I have to be strong.

We laugh,
we cry,
and God knows how much we fight,
but there is not a night when I don't miss her smile.

Today, she is 17,
beautiful as she has always been,
smart as a genius,
strong as a fighter,
hard working as my father,
funny as my brother,
loving as my mother,
and as perfect as anyone could ever be.

She is one of my reasons for being,
She is my strength and determination in life,
and I could never be able to express
the love I have and will forever have for her.

So baby girl,
as I hope for 100 more years to come,
I will always be here to hold your hand.
