Daughter of my Heart
- Daughter of my Heart -
I prayed so many nights, in lonely solitude,
For the good gods to send me a daughter pure…
With goodly heart and ever loving-kindness!
From whom: light like the stars wouldst exude,
And who I might make happy, forever more.
But, she never came, and I felt such distress!
And so I prayed and heard an oracle’s word:
Soon, a daughter shall come and bring joy…
And though some wouldst call my belief absurd,
I knew the oracle spoke true, with no ploy.
Then, when I had least expected to meet her,
It was whilst reading poetry that it came to be.
Within my heart, she didst, such goodness stir!
And now I have met my daughter, Jade Ivy.
Whether it be destiny, or simply providence…
I thank the gods for blessing us both this way!
Dear Jade Ivy, our life shall be a joyful dance,
And together we will greet a shining new day.
