half a block
away
You sense
some
FADED BEAUTY
spiffed up
all in black
And anticipate
skin fashionably
white,
hair impeccably
coiffed...

she passes,
you knew
there'd be
a waft of
flowery scent
and her
dark glasses
wouldn't dip
a look in your
direction
Then next moment
you'd hear her
throat catch
hoarsely
in some unrelieved
sorrow
Now turn slyly,
watching her
walk away...
