Rough Medley: Changes of Choice For the Supposedly Better

You used to stay out so late,
Kick about the benches, hit the street corner,
Talk to anyone about whatever was around...

Engripped with the picture-cloud skies,
Not caring how your voice sounded,
Or what anything you said meant,
Or how things ought to be certain inside you...

You used to just try for girls,
Those cheap dirty highschool-drugs long gone,
Replaced by the smooth university weeknight-pints...

Oh such control of your lifestyle!
Decisions based on convenience and function,
On feeling proper with yourself!

This seems all fine-and-dandy,
Until something taps you on the shoulder,
And the world goes blank.

They’re parking their shiny sedans and SUVs
In the evening sunshine outside your parents’ house
For your drug intervention...

So as you approach you can see their excessive use
Of oil products is better than your humble choice
Of solitary destruction.

They’ve arranged the furniture in a pleasant circle...
For the calm face-to-face dramas of emotion...

Because their fake survivor tv-series,
Network movies with toweled nudity,
Drug scenes removed for safer family viewing,
Is the better way...

That staying at home, indoors, working,
Following the formula of switching on lights
With your finger and having a consistent supply
Of fresh, overproduced, nutrientless fruits and veggies
In the refrigerator is infinitely better,

Than learning to Exist Eternally
Through the lessons of chemistry and humility,

Gaining the Will to Continue,
Without this human form
Not meant to last very long.
