Decoration Preparation

I wake up and open my eyes, the clock at the foot of our bed reads 9:58 am. Instinctively, I reach out my hand to your side of the bed to see if you're still asleep; I feel nothing but air and already made up bed sheets. I rub my eyes slowly as I open the shades. It's a sunny day outside, not a single cloud in the sky and the trees around the house are beginning to change from vibrant greens to to bright yellows and reds. I make my side of the bed quietly and then saunter into the living room.

"Surprise!" you exclaim as you literally jump on and tackle me onto the couch.

"Will there ever come a day when I can just wake up peacefully?" I kid, sighing. I look around the living room momentarily and notice that there are fall and Halloween themed decorations everywhere. Our once rustic, earth tone based great room has been changed into a mess of muted reds and oranges; a dish of candy corn is the center piece of every flat surface imaginable. Not to mention that even the air smells like pumpkins and all sorts of assorted fall spices. I notice the faint smell of smoke and find that you cleaned out the wood stove earlier and put some wood pellets in it. I then turn my attention to our fireplace and find two large pumpkins sitting on the mantel with yet another dish of candy corn centered in the middle, a roaring fire beneath.

You smile, "Do you like it? I stopped at a couple of consignment stores on the way home from work last week. I knew you liked autumn, so, I figured I should decorate a little more this year. Did I do okay? Too little? Too much? Do you like it?"

In reality, I would never decorate the house like this. It's far too much and doesn't go with our initial color scheme at all. However, for some reason, rather than dumping every single dish of candy corn over kill into the fire and throwing all pumpkin scented candles out the window, I smile.

"I think it's just right. Amazing job, I absolutely love it," I say. "Now, get off me, I need to shower and run to the store later. Need anything? And don't say more candy corn because I think we're covered."
