Thespian Life

Sweat dripping off your face.
No windows to open, no way to escape.
The lights flicker on,
sound cues get called.
Your feet feel like they're on fire
but you're used to the pain.
You read your line in vain and smirk to yourself.
Though, in its own way, the theatre is your own private hell,
you still enjoy every waking moment.
Someone screams over the headset to check on the blocking.

In the theatre,
walking in front of an actor on stage is a crime.
Totally justifiable though,
considering that you're taking away from their time.
You recite your next line and you're spot on,
the pressure is builds but you don't crumble.
You run through the script one last time
and after reading off and memorizing line after line
you're done.

Now, the show is nearly complete.
You leave the theatre with sore feet
from dancing to Lady Gaga between scenes
and running back and forth with copies of the script.
Never did you think your life would end up like this
but you couldn't be happier.
You've found your family,
your clique.
