Short Epigram on the Grave of a Soldier

The forest stretches far ahead,
The horse I rode, he now lies dead,
The bodkin sears my pale wrists,
My fingers clench in small tight fists,
The wind surrounds me as I die,
And to this world I say goodbye,
A simple soldier, once so brave,
But medals could not my young life save.

I love the subject matter, i love the rhymes and the simplicity of it. I have a soft spot for military poems like this one, especially ww1 poetry. Nice little poem

Oh my God I LOVE Drummer Hodge. I studied it briefly as part of my English A-level course. Isn't it just a wonderful poem?
