I had a dream that the offended writers sat down and directed their feelings of superiority towards a piece of writing that allowed their freedom of expression without infringing on the freedom of others.
I can't disagree that some images shouldn't be online, that isn't the point.
Who defines what is "tasteful porn" ? The American supreme court only got as far as the judge deciding that although he couldn't define it he knew it when he saw it...
Porn magazine owner won that case and is still in mass circulation btw
Well said Miki, now when I joined DU it seemed we had the freedom to create threads on practically anything. As I thought this place was to express controversial opinions and expressions.. We are after mad crazy writers here, who I thought could intelligently agree to disagree. Some like to shock and offend if you don't like it don't look.
But what has been happening on here is absolutely fucking disgusting. From my perspective I see some of this sites best writers voice their ire at the double standards and ass kissing that has been going on as of late. Now I will admit to not reading much of Jack Heslop or Missy, to name a couple that have left this site, but who here remembers their reason for leaving.. It was because the webmiss did fuck all to address the problems that happened last year, I am not sure when this was happening as I had a lot going on in my life. For those of you that don't know I am married to Miki and I know I am probably biased in saying this, but she is easily the most talented writer on this site, how many on here like her actually do offer constructive criticism? Isn't that what we want we tick that option, I know my writing has improved due to her comments and help.
So when I see one of this sites greats trying to point out wrong doings and those not being addressed, but certain ass kissers being allowed to continue to stir the pot or twist the knife a little more ( or even tell members to close comps they are running if they are going to leave). Before putting the mod hat on, it reeks of double standards to me.

I think it ridiculous that he was asked to take it down though, as lets face it, it wasn't really that offensive now was it.. seems to me someone was on a power trip there.
Sure we need mods but there is such a thing as over moderating and lets face facts, censorship is never a good idea. Political correctness be damned, writers are supposed to offend and make people think, not write watered down kumbayah hymns.
Just my two cents on this childish behavior that has been going on. If you can't handle the heat stay in the school yard.

I'm busy ATM, so without going through the hassle of quoting, I'll re-cap. Grace and the Engr suggest we enjoy what rights we have and not push the envelope on what is not allowed...
by that logic, we'd still be selling people as slaves, women would have no rights, children would be at jobs instead of schools, mental patients would be covered in feces and chained to walls, disabled people would be begging on streets....
anyone hearing me yet?

Some thoughts:
Over-moderation: Solutions would be to either have an electronic Mod-Bot (if such a thing exists) with preprogrammed responses based on the guidelines the site owner has set forth, thereby eliminating the need for a human to be a mod. Or, leave the mods as humans, and have them create separate profiles by which they can do all their participation here, forum discussion, competition entering, as a non-mod member. That way, it will take out the factor that no matter what a mod posts under the mod profile, it's seen as moderation.
Competitions: I'm not sure why it's offensive to ask someone to close up their comp; entrants took their time to write something to give to you, so acknowledging that is only common courtesy.
Rules and pushing the limits: Those are defined by the site administrator/site owner, as they have that right to do that. There's always personal blogsites that can be utilized by those who want no restrictions whatsoever.
Profiles, writing and commenting: Yep, once in a while some people need to molt, and wipe it all clean, and start over. I'm one such person, and as soon as I get some free time, I hope to be able to redo my own profile, and actually do some writing of my own and reading of the work of others. (Been a little busy lately, with working 2 jobs in the real world outside of here, getting the daughter off to college, and burying 4 family members and a dear friend)
