a few of my teachers used to drop homilies like that.. "HE WHO STAYS SILENT, REMAINS SAFE; EVERYTHING'S NOT FOR EVERYBODY; TIME FOR WAR TIME FOR PEACE" etc, on that kinda vibe, yeah they'd add details ensuring one got the gist. Definitely some words to think n' consider, at least for me
Anyway, I've contributed to this site for a few seasons myself. I think that's kinda special seeing I dont really consider myself a poet per se. What I've always said is, I let people say what they say. My bottom line is, it'll be on them what they say and not on me if I didn't say it.
Not to ramble, but I do like to read the work posted by the poets here, least some of 'em and occasionally I compete in their comps. The forums...ehh, I can take 'em or leave 'em. This one has been pretty interesting. In my opinion, somewhat like the world we find ourselves in. Alotta edginess, misunder AND overstanding, seering AND overseering, anxiousness, humor, grace, grace-less-ness, wars, rumors of wars, innuendo, impatience, politics, neo-slander, over-stated abuse, misuse, jock-ridin, etc. etc. I've read alotta WTF in this and some of the other threads referenced in this mudderfriggin thread and concluded... it is what it is..
I'll conclude this post by mentioning my new & current signature.. I feel or better said, I know the meaning it has for me and have no need for it's author or anyone else in or out of "authority" to define it for me. I believe it's possible AND ambiguous enough for one to draw their own meaning different from mine... that's their right and relative to their comprehensive ability. I once heard of a teacher who stated what means, "My position is correct, but it's possible it could be incorrect whereas my opponent's position is incorrect although its possible it could be correct. Sometimes what appears black and or white can change quicker than one's comprehension into an all encompassing gray... that quick

Everything has positive and negative aspects. People included. I doubt ANYONE has all the facts of what goes on here, so why continue bitchin? It's not constructive. Go clean your own house or plant a pretty garden. sheeesh.
I know I haven't given all the info and personal experience that I've had in all in this mess (mostly from trolls)...It's just ugly and probably won't change many opinions... I'll just try to focus on what better atmosphere can be created. Period. I'm off this craphill thread.

We hope you stay, Roachmill--you're a breath of fresh air around here, but for the comps, they'll have to go to vote if a winner is not chosen by the person running the comp. Unfortunately, that's turning out to be a very long process, as it's taking forever to close up the few that are presently in active voting status. (69 more to go on the list...)
So that would perhaps be a good, positive use of time for all--get out and vote. Have a read through the 5 comps in vote status, cast your ballot for which entry you think should win, in each.

I posted this much earlier in this thread, but I'm reposting it again, as we've had a few issues with photos/media being posted on the site, that some are finding offensive. There's no absolute cut and dried version of "acceptability" and there's arguements that could be made on both sides as far as artistic expression, censoring, what's offending someone, etc. So! Here's what we go by for standards, if you will, for allowed photos and other media:
Typically always allowed:Tasteful nude, such that you might find in a classical painting.
Multimedia that is only allowed on "extreme content" poems:
(often poems with these kind of images also have "extreme content" text, and may need to be flagged) Full nude (including genitalia)
Erotica / softcore porn ("artistic" XXX without real life penetration close ups)
Never allowed multimedia: Selling a product or designed to advertise a website (containing URL or phone number for example)
Logo or indirect promotion of an illegal website (e.g. warez) or hardcore porn website
Depicting rape, abuse or torture
Hardcore real life porn with close ups of penetration
Real death or extreme gore
Unrelated videos (not a spoken word version of the poem)
^^All that applies to photos posted with poems/writing, videos, and also avatars, since those are a form of media as well.
As a side note, just a mention about critiques on poems, as we've had an issue arise in that area also: "critique" means critique the actual piece of writing that someone posted in their poems page, not critique the author in the form of a personal attack because of their beliefs, values, etc. This is a world wide community with many different beliefs, traditions, values and customs, and that's not an open invitation to diss anyone that doesn't line up exactly with how others believe or conduct themselves.
