Updates And Announcements

I've had some queries about where to post certain things, like links to blogs, websites, poetry competitions outside of DUP, etc. so I thought this thread might be useful as a central place to post it all, and as a one-stop shopping go-to for information, rather than people having to start tons of separate threads for these purposes.  

If you have something you'd like to share with the DUP community, be it a link to your personal blog, a webpage you've created, a webpage that may be of interest to the writing community, or information about publishers and the various contests they run from time to time, post it all here.

Or if you have some sort of announcement/news, etc. you'd like to share that would benefit/be of interest to other members here, add it in, this way, we can keep it all contained in one spot.

Please no flaming, judging, arguing--this is purely for what the title suggests:  Updates and Announcements and Information.



I'll start us off:  We have quite a backlog of abandoned competitions that need to go to voting, but only 5 at a time can be put up.  Please take a minute to vote on the ones currently listed in "Competitions", if you haven't already, so we can move the list along.  Also, if you've received a message from me regarding an abandoned comp of yours, please choose a winner and close it up--it'll help the process along, in fairness to those who gave their time to write a piece for your comp.  Don't leave them hanging.  Thanks.

Thanks Ricky and Vic!  I'm going to post another, purely for informational;  I've been hearing off and on that members, both new and established, may not always be familiar with who the moderators are, in the event they need to contact someone for whatever reason, so here's a list of our current mods:

Jumping in again to clarify a topic that has come up on many an occasion, that being photos and videos posted with poems/writing, and reasons why they might not be visible after you post them.  On some occasions, certain photos and videos are removed from view for various reasons.  Here is a list of guidelines we go by for determining if some form of media is unacceptable to be posted here at DUP:

Typically always allowed:

   Tasteful nude, such that you might find in a classical painting.  

Multimedia that is only allowed on "extreme content" poems:
(often poems with these kind of images also have "extreme content" text, and may need to be flagged)

   Full nude (including genitalia)--again, tasteful as in what you'd see in an art gallery, not on the pages of Playboy or other pornographic magazines/websites
   Erotica / softcore porn ("artistic" XXX without real life penetration close ups)

Never allowed multimedia:

   Selling a product or designed to advertise a website (containing URL or phone number for example)
   Logo or indirect promotion of an illegal website (e.g. warez) or hardcore porn website
   Depicting rape, abuse or torture
   Hardcore real life porn with close ups of penetration
   Real death or extreme gore
   Unrelated videos (not a spoken word version of the poem)

So if you notice that a photo or video you posted, seems to have disappeared, chances are, it fell into one of the above scenarios.  If you know your media doesn't meet that criteria and is non-visible, it could be a website glitch, so give us a heads-up and we'll look into it.  

I was just wondering something. I did a forum search on it but came back with no answers.

There used to be trophies awarded for reading challenges and being a top critiquer. Do any of those reading challenges still exist? Do good critiquers still get awarded and if not, would this encourage more reading?

That's one of them, yes. Wondered if there were any more, and if not, is it something that could be resurrected.

Can a My Subscribers list/page be added to the left side menu? Currently we have a My Poets option (those we follow) - but nothing quick & simple on the other side of the coin ...

Good ideas--I'll forward both to the Webmiss to ask. :)

Also, just a heads up to all, to please take a minute if you would, to vote in the competitions that are in the voting process--we have over 100 more lined up, waiting to be finalized, and your help is greatly appreciated!

Uhhhh I already voted... once or twice...

about this voting, I've voted on a couple. It'd be nice to be able to follow up, see where the votes stand and how many votes are needed to decide the winner etc. the way it stands now is almost like 'cast your vote then fuck off'.

oh, and I think someone's stole the boiler room  ;)
