Categories etc. Posted on: 01/19/10 at 20:42:45 CST
Abra mentioned a haiku section... :0 and that got me to thinking about categories.
Haiku! What about our reputation? We're supposed to be deep, dark under-the-ground eternally anxious and constantly suffering writers. Haiku is Soooo WIMPY. People with facial tattoos (not to mention conservatives and accountants) will make fun of us. Pin tales on us or something.
But seriously: I kind of dislike having categories. But it's just "kind of". They don't bother me much and if other people like them then I'll try to behave and use them.
Also: Most of the categories deal with emotional values / content and not with types. Except the fiction. So haiku wouldn't fit in. Actually, I'd prefer not doing types at all; take the "poem" and "fiction" off them and just classify all types of writing by emotional values / content.
Also, also: If we have to keep "poems" on the categories, then I'd like a non-fiction poem category.
Whatever... any thoughts?

Now I'm not suggesting you're God of the Wimps or anything Ray, but you seem to like writing this H stuff rather a lot. Wonder how the thread will pan out. And what could I have been thinking about our reputation - why tis normally paramount in my thoughts. Oh, the shame - after this I shall have to remove myself to our rival SMP - Shallow Mainstream Poetry - to avail myself of the softer side of the genre. Now where were those dictionary entries I selected for posting....

-> "SMP - Shallow Mainstream Poetry"
SMP is why you haven't seen any of my puppy and kitten poems, I post them over there.
And oh! While posting < all of you have two assholes and no mouth > was lots of fun here; the reaction at SMP was more gratifying than a personal visit from god. They were literally falling from the rafters!
Of course, I had to post about 30 puppy and kitten poems to make up for it. Luckily, I just LOVE puppy and kitten poems. (Which, by the way, are way less wimpy than this wretched haiku stuff.)

My God Ray I think I may be overdosing on fluffy bunnies. Everything looks so sweet on the site - it's all apple pie personified. I never knew there were so many furry things you can cuddle. I'm gonna post my new poem God's Alright By Me - complete with musical accompaniment - we're having a full choir all dressed in white. It's big Ray. I can feel the throb of my future - sweet and shallow, sweet and shallow - just how I like it. And don't you just adore the Webmomma - she must be the cutest, sweetest of all. Every time I log myself on she gives me the sweetest hug. Does she do that for you Ray?

That and more Abra dude, that and more... (got a back door that just won't quit)

You already have one. The "fantasy poems" section is for non-fiction poetry
The category titles are not designed to force people to put their creative work into a box. They're just designed to be engaging for readers and help them find what they are looking for more easily.
Keeping readers happy is really important because on a lot of websites they are in much shorter supply than writers!
