I suspected progress might have reared its ugly head - but such things inevitably breed inspiration.

Rest Bay (and Merthyr Mawr) are still very picturesque places. I lived in Porthcawl until Oct 09.

I like Merthyr Mawr, haven't been there in a while though.

I seem to remember Kenfig Pool was a beauty spot - even with the shadow of Port Talbot down the road.

AH, you know the area then! - well I have a poem about Swansea bay that I have been thinking about posting. Maybe I'll add it and perhaps you'll recognise something.
Indeed Kenfig Pool is beautiful. Serene.

Anything that captures the dark satanic mills of how Port Talbot used to be should be a good read.

Although you might not believe him to be a poet as such, I live ~20 minutes away from Shakespeare's birthplace. It's such a shame what tourism has done to the place - Stratford upon Avon used to be a beautiful town which has been mostly ruined by commercialisation.
Words are my excuse

I was fortunate enough to be brought up in a wonderful place with a fantastic family around me and have travelled many countries... however, it is at home where I find my inspiration and my time for reflection... alone in a room, with nothing but the sound of my own breathing, where you find yourself full of thought in another place but then eventually return as you forget to blink or lift your chest when you breath in and then force them to occur to bring you back. My inspiration follows me around like a shadow, that I stuggle to find unless the sun is in THE place it needs to be in the sky.

That's almost a poem in itself rbolano - on second thoughts forget the "almost"!

While respecting your anonymity Abra - interested as to how you know the Bridgend area so well? Lived or worked there before?

See my previous on this thread about Porthcawl. I've never had much truck with Brigend itself. Last summer was up in the Rhondda visiting a grave in Treherbert - awesome full on bleakness under mountain shadow - no wonder Celts write.

I live more-or-less on the other side of the mountain that overshadows Treherbert/Treorchy, the Rhigos mountain. Getting to the top in any weather is rewarded by staggering views over the vale.

The area certainly generates a wildness that hangs in the soul.
