If you are like me and watch a couple hours of TV a day,
I am basically surrounded by actors saying the lines of a writer
I will never meet or know, or be able to give accolades to.
When I see David Letterman telling great jokes,
and watch actors saying great things,
the pool of script writers, and joke writers,
are for the general public, mostly anonymous.
Personally, I can name a number of late nite hosts,
and actors I am charmed by, but I don't think I can name even one
screen writer.
The Writers behind these great people often remain completely anonymous,
only getting credit amongst their fellow writers in the writing pool.
But to be in these writing pools, these writers must have proven themselves to be
good. Very good.
If any aspiring writer, such as many of us here,
one day hopes to join the paid writing industry,
It might actually be beneficial to voluntarily experience losing credit
for a poem.
Experiencing, and dealing with
the pain of losing direct credit for their writings,
is what professional writers have already figured out how to deal with.

First of all, the point you make about late night hosts and other actors, comedians, etc. who make their living by delivering the lines and writing of others, is pretty much assumed and general knowledge, that in most cases, they don't write their own material, and they're just there to present the work of those who did write it.
Second, if you actually read the credits as they scroll by during all those hours that the TV is watched, the credit is given to whoever wrote it. "Screenplay by so and so" "Based on the novel by so and so" etc. So yes, those in the supposed ghost-writer status, actually are being given credit for their work, however fast it flys by on the screen and if you are talented enough to look fast.
Third, the "pain"? All these people who are writing material for others/frontmen and women to present, are getting paid for it, so I hardly think that's painful, unless somehow your direct deposit is late and you can't pay your bills on time.
Fourth, if you're concerned about not being able to give accolades to those who actually wrote the stuff, then all you have to do is watch the Grammy's or the Emmy's or the Oscar's or some award show on the TV (where everything is prescripted by someone else...) and you'll no doubt see a number of categories for best screenwriter, songwriter, costume designer, or some behind the scenes team or person. Also instead of sending fan mail to the famous actor and actresses who are just puppets for these behind the scenes people who do and create all the work and writing, try sending those people a letter of praise and thanks--there's your opportunity to give accolades and show your appreciation.
So in essence, the whole premise here comes down to those who are paid to give away their work and those who are not paid to give away their work, hence the thought process behind this thread. If someone's gonna pay me to hand over a stack of poems, then sure, if the price is right and I can pay for the rest of college tuition for my daughter with it, then hell yeah--I'll give you my whole collection and you can sign your name to it. But if if I'm not getting anything of value (monetary or other) out of handing over some poems for someone else to deliver as theirs, then where's the logic in that?

If I feed the poor
they say I'm a saint,
If I ask why
the poor are hungry,
they say I'm a communist.
I know the writer personally,
and if it were ever spied
rambling here
or about, on and on,
she would be ever so pleased.

Dear Diary
I can hear his hounds baying in the distance
they must have gotten my scent
from the scarf he'd slipped out of my pocket
just before he slapped my horse to a canter
he'd caught me, some hours before
on the floor, naked with another man
and he, he stood there
had his eyes on the way too long ago
and so, fell headlong into his own shit-storm
because he'd thought the sun
shone from my posterior
like I never had an ulterior or contingency
god, this one was easy 'takin candy from a baby'
but now I fear for my life
'cause it's no secret that his last one
(the third wife) was found strangled to death
at the bottom of Wood-view creek
she'd been there at least three weeks
before anyone noticed her missing
then when they found her
the whole town searched high and low for the man
that he'd seen running away from his house
all that time ago
just realized that for all the shit talking I've done on this thread I hadn't donated a poem.
It's like this I think. If you're comfortable donating a poem then why not. think of it like one of those Chinese lanterns set to the sky. who knows where it will land when the fire runs out. write it, donate it then forget about it. if you're not comfortable then that's cool too
the one above isn't very personal to me, it's just some words I threw together last year and forgot about. I tried to give it away some months ago on a thread and there were no takers haha

223 days ago Your competition Poem Donations has ended choose a winner
So I keep seeing this reminder in my updates, and although this comp was pulled and changed to a non comp status,
I guess the computer has this little relic tingling me to pick a winner and so I will, thank you very much, and the winner
is Mr. Craic, the dealer of all craics, for taking the shit on a shingle and I appreciate all the other contributors to this long extinct comp.
Keep on creeping on

Hmmm....interesting topic...it may make more sense to get expand what value a poet can receive in reciprocation of their "donation". I
d be enticed if the "donation" program would have been re-labeled as "License your poem off for a write-off". This way originator of work is recognized, work protected, and write off what author believes is market value of license fee...1M would get me in your game!

I am donating the following poem as
my car is in the shop and I can't get out to goodwill
anytime soon:
This is in the public domain , so you can do what you may with it,
as in "I had my way with a goat"
you can have your way with the poem, and for that manner,
any public domain work.
"they" try to tell you that you will go to jail or be sued,
if you put your name to a public domain document,
but after some online searching, I learned the issue made
it to the supreme court, and a person cannot be fined, sued, or do jail time,
for putting their name to a public domain writing.
LIke I can say Moby Dick, by Rabbitquest,
and I am just mightily fine.
Sure, my institution of higher learning my fail me, boot me out,
my employer may fire me, but thats it. NO suing, NO jail time, No fine.
That being said, here is my donated poem:
Reptiles make their way into my psyche
Like a watered down garden of lies
Erectile dysfunction hovers low
before her eager eyes
My hand reaches out to sooth the
misunderstanding
and everything worked out better
than if it had been done with glanding
