They live in fear and suspicion due to what they see and hear online and on TV which sometimes are misleading...there is less human interaction nowadays due to the internet. The warmth and genuine hello from friendly neighbors are becoming thing of the past (in my neighborhood anyway). We rely more on the government in times of disasters instead of helping one another.

This. Although there are benefits to nowadays, people need to mix what we have now w/ the get-togetherness of the past to truly connect w/ each other. Being a genuine person is strongly discouraged if it is not part of the norm. Subconscious influence on the people is so strong that most people are ashamed to admit they are little more than an amalgam of what they see in media. Desperate people.

This 'Generation' same as any other generation younger than the rest. However I feel that my generation is the 90's and the pre-Millenium and is sandwiched between the older generation now eager to relive the 80's and their youth, and the Millenium generation who are bombarded by technology and lacking in some simple human-ness.

I think it is true that nowadays there is a lot of communication available but somewhat lacking in the conversation area, twitter is a prime example of this: forcing short snappy words rather than elaborating and deep conversation.

Yet on the plus side the amount of global things, from the Olympics to the World Cup, to recent disasters, enables the newer generations to become aware of the world; of global politics and of working internationally. So it is not all hope lost. Though tragedies of social grace such as twerking makes it a case of watching with hope with one eyebrow raised in question.

People focusing on who's cool and how to be internet famous. Kids getting sick ideas of the world, like these two girls. They heard of the myth of Slender man and they decided to sacrifice another girl...
Normal little girls would have freaked out at the sight of blood but they stabbed her more times than usual...sick.

The times encourage a perverted sense of maintaining 'individuality' while minimizing privacy and perpetuating fear. Seems like people are becoming afraid to be themselves and prone to competition instead of cooperation.

The integration of our efforts and ideas is happening, and bodes well for the future, but there are things in the way that must be removed.

Also, what EngrVV said

What is this you old farts? The pensioners nostalgia section?!
Neighbours have always been prone to bitching when out of earshot when saying hello.
Popularity contests have always been around and will use whatever form of socialising they can.
Idiots will and always will be pointed at to be laughed at, and other idiots will emulate them.
So what about this generation? I'd say it's it's better than the generations of the past, when segregation, racism, anti-semitism and homophobia ran riot. I think the real problem is more and more people have stopped offering up a fuck to give about other peoples opinions of them.

Don't be fooled. Things aren't the same. Behaviors that have been perpetuated in our society continue, and human behavior like shallowness and psycho-killer-kids will always exist, but this isn't 1984. Everything is not the same. You should pay attention. You should worry. Thing's have changed. We can make it better. Pessimism and defeatism perpetuate itself, change is always different.
