MythMalefactress9 said:Exactly. Sex isn't all bad. I mean fucking is meaningless, but making love is beautiful... Or so I hear, never really slept with a guy I actually loved yet... But anyways, in our screwed up, over complicated, smart phone infested society, sex does sell and that fad, as frustrating as it might be, is indeed translating into the poetry world... so we either must conform or radically rebel. I say radically rebel. I refuse to let derogatory terms like 'pussy' or 'cunt' or 'cock' or 'dick' anywhere near            my poetry, I prefer gladiolus sword and butter knife's sheath and romantic metaphors like such.

So who's with me in the iconoclastic middle ground?

absolutely. I write erotic poems from time to time and never use the 3 C's or other profanities, but I get appreciative comments and likes on them. I think there is a saturation of the mind that creates desensitization to less hard-core language. Escalating the "dirtiness" of the words is the only way to keep it exciting after a while.
But I think poets should try using more metaphors in their erotic verse. It naturally cuts down on profanity while retaining the sexual energy. At least it does in my mind.

I think honesty brings power to verse..i have pieces i love the most without one explicit term...
But i am me
..and i use the words cunt cock..pussy punani and on occasion Johnson
..i know my way around a metaphor
..i get high on euphamism..

But sometimes poetry involves snatch...
And if i find myself avoiding a word to not offend....i.am not being honest.
And i am not writing for likes...though i love them.

Language changes....i had men since the age of 9 make me believe my pussy was something dirty...

I write beautiful poetry about my pussy now...because for the first time in my life...i own it. My cunt snatch pussy punani cunny venus flytrap is gorgeous and makes me woman...
And if i write about a big fat cock in it sending me to orgasm...that can be gorgeous too...

No one person can define it. What did the Supreme court justice say when asked if he could define pornography...no...but i know it when i see it.

We go around telling others what's appropriate for their poetry...we have crossed a line as artists.

And that is my definition of the difference between shitty porn and erotica....art. Honesty.

have to agree with Tornado. erotica does seem to be the scary muslim of The genres. there's a lot of poets here who do it well and a fair few who clearly have never been kissed

I think the biggest shame here is that for the most part, for whatever reason, those that do it well never seem to give advice about technique etc to those who would like to do it well ...but can't   (insert sneering enoji here)

furthermore, I think if any genre warrants suspicions it should be the up-beat ..I mean, hardly anyone reads them ...and they're still up beat about it

I love what you are saying here...yes lep...no sarcasm..

Thing is folks...we have all been "kissed" in different ways. And that is going to be the source of our poetry. All different...and that should be celebrated...not broken down to bad and good.

People are naturally attracted to sex, it's human nature, which you can't change, unless you wanna modify a human's brain which is the violation of utter purity and individuality, easily one of the worst crimes that can be done, along with artificial intelligence. It's not bad, nor is it good, it just IS. If people appreciate poetry that isn't about sex, that's good, but it's not because they are resisting some temptation, it's because they also wanna read poetry. So what if your erotic poem gets more views? At least people are enjoying it.

I know I'm way too young to be talking about this, but I have been through things related to it, and I think I have a better point than the person who made this thread in the first place

In a perfect world, you could fuck people without giving them a piece of your heart. And every glittering kiss and every touch of flesh is another shard of heart you’ll never see again.

This is a question for the ages, but I think you answered it. It is hardwritten in our biology. It is literally our raison d'etre.

A poem with the word boobs in the title alone, can generate 111views in 2 days.
While masterpieces I have poured my heart and soul into, get neglected and forgotten.

If you hadn't guessed it, I am the writer of "Teenage girl shows her boobs" and some of you have been trolled by my poem.
I plea here for you, to please step forward and explain your actions. (because I'm bored mostly.)

Damn it, you are a troll. Who refers to their own poems as masterpieces, and acts this entitled?

It totally can.  The great thing about art is that it's subjective.  Sex, like anything else, can be beautiful.  To take that away from it condems it to live as a dirty thing never to be discussed, and that's not how it should be.  It should be brought into the light to be celebrated for the beautiful and wondrous thing it is.

To be fair i get where the thread starter is coming from.

Its hard to get your words out there, to share.

I guess it hurts when folk dont respond when you are open and honest. Its a cold fucking world.

Everyone on this site loves their words and are possibly their own worst critics.

I get where a title to draw folks in comes from, cos we all want to share and get heard.

Its difficult to expose yourself somtimes.

Every share that is thrown out into this electronic wilderness is a brave move.

We accept we may be slammed, mocked or derided.

And on the masterpiece front, yeah i think everything I write is a masterpiece otherwise why continue.

Everything on here is a masterpiece, every person who is brave enough to share verse.

Come on, who are we?

Support each other even if we make desparate statements.

We all share words here for a reason.

Show some love for words and boobs!

Like mysteriouslady, I completely agree. What else tingles and inflames so many of our senses? Occupies our mind? Propels us to actions both logical and illogical? Makes us brave and weakens us? Sex and love, love and sex - two facets of the same urge. To express both--well, completely, originally--has been a main goal of poetry since its inception. IMHO :-)
