Perhaps all who stand on the righteous side of the line they've drawn in the sand could write an app that would pin a sneering emoji with the caption "I write erotica" to the sleeves of those who stand on the wrong side of the drawn line whenever they log onto DU? Thereby solving all the problems here.....

This is my favorite thing. I can't help but feel a little pang whenever someone flexes their disdain for my variety of filth. The sacred profane is my favorite synthesis. It's a shame some can't appreciate it, and all the more like a private joke or a shared secret when someone does get it. Hear, hear! to your Twain-like satire.

And in response to the original question posed, this is one of the only 'sites that hosts erotica. That's why I'm here. I'm sure that's why many are here. Ain't no shame in it. Any pieces I post that aren't erotica are purely incidental, although by happy accident I've stumbled on some incredible poets who I'm thoroughly enjoying. Anyway, that's my two cents.

..so what's the chances of getting a sneering emoj, sounds fun. and why stop there, lets change the name of The boiler room to The oven.

s
have to agree with Tornado. erotica does seem to be the scary muslim of The genres. there's a lot of poets here who do it well and a fair few who clearly have never been kissed

I think the biggest shame here is that for the most part, for whatever reason, those that do it well never seem to give advice about technique etc to those who would like to do it well ...but can't   (insert sneering enoji here)

furthermore, I think if any genre warrants suspicions it should be the up-beat ..I mean, hardly anyone reads them ...and they're still up beat about it

Ah, the Spring - in variance to the proverb a woman I once worked in the same office with described it as "the time when a young man's fancy turns to thoughts of what women have been thinking of the rest of the year"! (Suspect she also meant what women - with respect to them - have been thinking aloud of on their DUP Erotic poems.)

It's really interesting to me, I don't write erotica but I did post one poem in under the erotica heading (just a fun little piece - a quickie) and it has three times the reads of any of my other works!

MythMalefactress9 said:Exactly. Sex isn't all bad. I mean fucking is meaningless, but making love is beautiful... Or so I hear, never really slept with a guy I actually loved yet... But anyways, in our screwed up, over complicated, smart phone infested society, sex does sell and that fad, as frustrating as it might be, is indeed translating into the poetry world... so we either must conform or radically rebel. I say radically rebel. I refuse to let derogatory terms like 'pussy' or 'cunt' or 'cock' or 'dick' anywhere near            my poetry, I prefer gladiolus sword and butter knife's sheath and romantic metaphors like such.

So who's with me in the iconoclastic middle ground?

I count myself in the middle ground - I have rarely (if ever) used the four words and often make use of euphemisms. One fellow poet has complimented my sexual content in not being "crude or obscene", so I must have been doing something right.

anyhow, I read an article some days back which was interesting and I think it has some relevance here

( it's a bit of a read, but worth the time )

excerpt:

"One of the more irritating words in the English language is “eroticism” – so often it stinks of hypocrisy and smugness. By the same token, my favourite definition of pornography is this: other people’s eroticism. I see no reason why prose shouldn’t be pornographic, if by that we mean frank and explicit."

Thanks for the link Eamonn...I've 'saved' it to read later on this week...a quick glance shows it'll be an interesting read...

poet Anonymous

Honestly, I stumbled onto the DU for exactly the purpose of Erotic Poetry!
Not that I do not find many other categories filled with great poems. But for me this place was an outlet and, I by no means, feel myself to be an accomplished poet like many I have read here. But it does fulfill an outlet for me and for the most part I did not think I was offending anybody. I sometimes use the "dirty words" for emphases or humor, it seems to be so easy, for those that do not appreciate it, to not read.
Why we are so obsessed with it?
It is fun and has many different shapes and forms. It can be humorous or even a little bit titillating, it can be shocking and with the anonymity can be quite revealing. I have written many that are fantasy that i will never live out except in verse, scattered with just enough live experiences to add to my cover. I guess the point of my rambling is, love making, sex, screwing, humping, mating, or doing the "bedspring boogie" are all apart of our culture and this is a safe place to share. I hope I have offended noone!

Obsessed with mating.
To the point that even on a website for intellectual gathering and poetry. While masterpieces I have poured my heart and soul into, get neglected and forgotten.

If you hadn't guessed it, I am the writer of "Teenage girl shows her boobs" and some of you have been trolled by my poem.
I plea here for you, to please step forward and explain your actions. (because I'm bored mostly.)

Allan,
Only God knows
A poem with the word boobs in the title alone, can generate 111views in 2 days.

Because sex fuels so much of life beyond biology....
It has it's thick fingers flicking your psychological bud very early....we go through puberty as our id and ego take deep root. We develope watching our boobs grow, and eyes wide watching others take there shape on others shapes.
So a lil boob poem can run deep.

I am an incest and multiple rape survivor....sex was used as power over me..my body responded in pleasure to acts that caused life long terror and shame.

So taking my own sexuality...owning it and all of its perversion...all of its spirituality....and the pure joy of the bliss filled bounce of a titty....there is nothing less deep and intellectual about it than any other topic. Sex is a vast playground
..or desert....in every mind.

I will probably read about your boobs now....and if i prefer it over one about the futility of life...it does not mean i am not deep. It just means i dig the fuck out of a great rack!

I have had enough of futile things...never enough of boobies. 🔆🔆 mine have perked up just writing about this....poem "Zen and the art of nipple twisting" up soon.
