Oh Shit, not another religious/anti thread...
Anyway,
When did you just give up on a God?

Atheist as soon as I started Catholic school.
My eight year old self:
"God, please don't let the other kids pick on me."
Next day:
"You're a freak!"
That night:
"Screw you too God."

[font=Verdana]I'm not sure I was ever really a card-carrying Jesus freak, but if I had to pinpoint exactly when the concept of God began to lose its lustre for me I'd say it was when I was in Sunday school, aged about twelve or thirteen, and the group leaders said I should love God more than I love my family.

For me I just wondered why if god is so ever powerful, and omnipotent I would need to go to church. That in turn got me to thinking its all a mind game. Besides, there is far too much evidence on the side of the evolutionists.

Right on Jack I heard a similar load of crap myself and at age 6 when I heard also the words 'god is your father' it kind of confused me .

I believe in God but not in religion. I was a Legion of Mary (Catholic) member at aged 12 and once asked the leader whether Jesus had any brothers and sisters. I was threatened excommunication for 'blasphemy.' I left and never returned.

I hear you Veliqua. :)You covered quite a lot.
And Grace you too.:)
I am light years from any kind of 'ism'.
Even nihilism or atheism or pantheism or
agnosticism has 'one' in it.
Advaita appeals to me. So does 'Shunyabaad'(sunya=zero)
and some facets of ancient Indian philosophy (Upanishads)
which inspired existentialists like Kierkegaard and Nietzsche.
I am yet to dive fully in that realm. Neti Neti is it. (Which
means 'its not, it's not.) No anthropomorphic deities for me.
No messiahs. No place of divine significance or worship.
But yes I swim against the current and see a Solarys or 2001
and I have a meaningful smile.:)
