#8 HER GHOST IN THE KEYS

She was a witch that which
Would rather burn in pitch
Than to ever hurt me
She struck the keys to 'pease
When demons fail to tease
My ghosts between the screams

She composed a melody
An orchestra unto her own
Brought to life by misery
And a touch of tragedy
Reaping the seeds
Of which were sown

I still hear her play the tune
How could you do this to me?
You are a perfect poltergeist
I taste your blood on my hands

Become a product of doom
With her ghost within the keys
You were the perfect sacrifice
To usher me to the damned

Don't abandon me
And leave me with myself

She doth bewitch the stitch
As I lay here and twitch
I succumb to the gloom
Tapping the beat, deceit
From beneath blackened sheets
In long forgotten tombs

Tears drop like a symphony
A boutique of thorns wrapped in grief
Music scribed with witchery
Leaving only mystery
Staining the mind
With dead beliefs

I still hear her play the tune
How could you do this to me?
You are a perfect poltergeist
I taste your blood on my hands

Become a product of doom
With her ghost within the keys
You were the perfect sacrifice
To usher me to the damned

Don't abandon me
And leave me with myself

I have long fallen
Out of tune
Removed
From reality

You have long been gone
From my side
Inside
I feel so abandoned

I still hear her play the tune
How could you do this to me?
You are a perfect poltergeist
I taste your blood on my hands

Become a product of doom
With her ghost within the keys
You were the perfect sacrifice
To usher me to the damned

Don't abandon me
And leave me with myself

From time to time
Day to day
Night from night
I still play your keys
To hear your song

Once more

SCALES

Here they come
strong arms swinging twig legs from crutches
their beacon the moonlight on my safety jacket
a port of sticks and wash
the swinging bridge a cross over
razor shells cuttle scales
scales of distant nightclubs singing
A rope I hold on stiff with salt
waiting in kerosene lamp light
shark smiles pitch black white eyes spiders back
the scuttle of crab shadows across the dune
to carry my luggage over
drains of shit spilling with the tide and monsoon puddles
bellow deep and low before the blue
with nothing to sell except guilt
for their wars and their daughters and beer
I want lager and have a daughter
want warmth and water
And love for we are human too.

#4 Please Release Me

What have I done to deserve
The treatment all can observe
You have made me be a slave
Did I really misbehave?

When we met you seemed kind
To your sadistic streak I was blind
You lured me into your bed
Robbed me of my maidenhead

You tied me down in your room
It felt like I was in a tomb
You enter me when you like
Your friends ride me like a bike.

What must I do to gain release?
When will abuse really cease?
Please cut my bonds let me fly
If you leave me here I'll die.

RUN

And the only truly good thing
About me is you
You were my home
From the moment you were born
From that very first but
Sometime today
I may face something
I can't get away from
A ticket I bought
To a no-good terminal
Somewhere very dark
When that happens
I want you to run
To burrow deep
Don't come to find me
But sometimes
Think well of me
And stay alive
Find happiness
Because just knowing
That some day you'll find joy
Means that nothing truly bad
Can ever truly happen to me

That's a car engine
Halting
That's a door nob turn...ing
Now RUN

Sanity and Suicide – Turn and Walk Away
   (a villanelle)

With every echo, every step betray
My broken soul in every part of you
You put me here then turned and walked away

I raised your voice with every note I’d play
While angels sang and danced in every pew
With every echo, every step betray

Because of me they grant you every stay
And every head that turns in love with you
You put me here then turned and walked away

Unwelcomed guest, tried keeping me at bay
In every deathly game that we’d pursue
With every echo, every step betray

When twice we tried to end our worldly stay
With pills and cars and blood, our mettle prove
You put me here then turned and walked away

A shadow left that haunts you to this day
Tried to conceal, yet I'm revealed in you
With every echo, every step betray
You put me here then turned and walked away

Author’s Note: Etymology – Middle English “abandounen” to put under someone else’s control – a noble would issue a judgement (“a ban”) that a subject should be taken to the edge of the noble’s lands and left there under penalty of death should he return: effectively making him someone else’s problem…

The poem is about the people I was before and after my suicide attempts…

Shadows

I try to search but all I find
Is only what I want to see.
Dark corners hide inside my mind;
Shadows shade my memory.

I still remember the numbing pain
And all of the stinging tears
That fell more often then the rain
Throughout my tender years.

Recalling why remains hazy.
How did I come to know such pain?
Those shadows are what drive me crazy...
Yet they are what keeps me sane.

(#9 Abandoned Church) He's Not There

Where should we go
When we need to thank Him
For the gift of existence
For all His blessings?

Not in the Church!

Where should we go
To worship and praise
And offer our sacrifice
For the God that we believe in?

Not in the Church!

Where should we go
When we have nowhere else to go
And the heavyweight of life
Starts pinning our hopes down?

Not in the Church!

Who should we ask
For the wishes in our hearts
And call for help
Whenever we need one?

Not the Church!

Who do we blame
For our missery
When we wollow in selfpity
And frustrations flood our entirety?

Not the Church!

Where is our home
Our hope and dreams
Our salvation and fortress
Our affection and faith?

Not the Church!

For He is everywhere
And wherever we are
He will always be there
Patiently waiting for the prodigals.

Yes, even there in the church
Abandoned and rotting
Even from where we stood
Even near our demise

The house of God made by the hands of men
May rot in time and be left behind
But His home, will always be...
Above, within and besides us

We are never alone...
He never left us
It's we who abandoned us
And seclude ourselves in the dark.

Comeback, He is waiting...

...And Sat Down Beside Her (#4)

What is this
sticky substance
could it be
anything other than
the silken strands of sighs
you've left behind

have you become
so starved
for sustenance
that the echo
of your own words
ensnares you

until you are left
with nothing
to feed on
except
desiccated
remains
