In Memory of a Mailbox
The children have all grow & moved away,
The dedicated parents are retired.
Everyone is green by using email,
Their orders sent to them by Amazon.
And yet the faithful mail box stands guard,
Its colors faded just a little bit.
Here front & center in the couple's yard,
With nothing left inside as days go on.
The daily news, like rolled up tubes, flies by,
The neighbor's dog won't even lift a leg.
The school kids off to class don't turn their heads,
And Dad who trims the hedge just walks away.
But still the mail box alone and proud,
Knows it's a fading breed and waits its turn.

I really like this you nailed it with the line:
'the neighbour's dog won't even lift a leg'
It reminds me of the film the last picture show.

Tabled
Like Frankenstein's
monster she was born
of the dead
with extraordinary
strength and the promise
of immortality.
She sat proud with oak
veneer glistening
in the dining room,
the center of attention,
where rough elbows
and fine china rested
upon the blonde wood
for dozens of birthdays,
Thanksgiving and Christmas
dinners until biblical
storms tore open the levees
and the raging river of Styx
submerged rooms and drowned
memories in a ruthless
culling of a community.
Legs breaking off under
the pressure of flood
waters leaving the top
to her own devices where
in her last selfless act
she somehow floats to
the youngest child who
boards the makeshift raft
and rides out the rains.
Once the sun returns,
the child buries wood,
splintered and rotting,
in hopes the fertilized
ground will grow other
pillars of fortitude.

Dirty, Stripped and Desolate
You were my longest relationship
Sixteen years through thick and thin
But the distance, the wear and tear
Had taken a toll on your green skin
I had so many memories with you
You took me to so many different places
You made my mobility possible
Even though I never took you to the races
And then those bastards stole you
Stripped you and took so much away
And when I finally found you again
You were a mess on that hot day
In the end you were draining my pockets
It was best for my financial survival
I’m sorry but you were just beyond repair
And it saddened me to sign over the title
I always knew the day would finally come
But I didn’t know it would be that hard
Seeing you dirty, stripped and desolate
When I said goodbye at the wrecking yard
You were my longest relationship
Sixteen years through thick and thin
But the distance, the wear and tear
Had taken a toll on your green skin

Great stuff to all
To quil in heart. Really like the idea of a table history. To willowwhimsies the hair clip is a mystical item they are everwhere and when you need one ive been told they vanish. To oxymoronicme really like the humor but i dont agree with dup as an inanimate object my opinion is irrelevant. To wollyroo92 i really like the feel and concept. This will defiantly go to a vote i like all of the entries so far

Just glasses
My glasses have died
I wasn’t blind
it was just supposed to be sunny.

I'm lost without you 'cause I haven't a map;
without your tunes playing, my mood is just crap;
disconnected and desolate, I am bereft -
memories of your ringtone are all I have left.
