Could This Be Enough?

Read all about it, again
down there in the corner of your morning paper
ticking along the bottom of the tv news
Another headline in the making

Could this be enough?

Behind the badge
a promise to "Protect and Serve"
Who gave permission to add
"as judge, jury, and executioner"?
Due process with the pull of a trigger

Isn't this enough?

Counting the crimson footprints of
another mother leaving her baby
swaddled in a body bag
lying in the street like a dog

Could this be enough?

Published rap sheets
justify the annihilation of the "bad apple"
Saved the whole bunch, right?
Arms wide
Crucified by public opinion

It's too much

Too many sons and daughters
brothers and sisters
become stereotypes and statistics
Whole generations denied the right to exist

Isn't this enough?

We say their names on social media
Tweet and post in outrage
But what's a hashtag to a bullet hole?
When will it be enough?

I want to scream
I need to scream
Til I open my mouth and realize
I'm already hoarse
Because ain't nothing new under the sun
when the exception is becoming the rule

Isn't this enough?
Could this be enough?
I've had enough

SHADE

No one is here that knows who you are
You have no door mat or even a car

Forced to focus on the orange or your vest
They seem to manage to look through the rest

Faded and folded pitted and dry
No hand to be holded or a shoulder to cry

In the city un noticed blended with ease
Like a vast green landscape your just one of the trees

Faster and faster year after year
Wishing for signs but not will work for beer

Under the freeway under the stairs
Sometimes on a beach if nobody cares

Someday a condo of cardboard you've made
Someday you'll have it made in the shade

I was thoroughly amazed by each and everyone's POV on the world and what makes it tick ... or not.

Bravo! All!
