So many wonderful allusions here such as unheard Emerald evening and ashen silence.  I loved it in its shortness but ability to capture one attention and take you briefly to that other place.

Title:  It was such a pity  

It was a Friday night, and Dottie and I were on the prowl
There were two guys a half hour away, in Hicktown, ready to smoke a bowl
So, we polished off half a pint of 110 Vodka
in my apartment, and then we got in my 68 red Chevy Nova

With her directing me, I pulled into a farmhouse driveway
and some crazy old lady told us that if we were there to see her son, it was the next house away
The only "house" we saw was a shack, as I drove down the road
As soon as we got there, two dudes came out, one of them named Bobby was pretty ugly and old

We were both nineteen and outlaws ready to party; Bobby grabbed her ass
It was apparent that I would be left with the short one named Chet, but alas
He showed me a dime bag of dope, and we followed them in to get high
There was only one room with a giant mattress on the floor and a toilet in a closet; I secretly wanted to die

Within seconds, we all were lined up in a row sitting on the bed
passing joints, some homegrown, and I think some Columbian red
When that was gone and the room was full of smoke, we started to drink
There was a keg of Bud, but I didn't stop even to think

We laughed and drank as much as we could
from red plastic cups, when Dottie started doing things with Bobby that no young girl should
It was awkward watching them, right next to us, getting it on
Because, I didn't even know Chet.  Before I knew it, Dottie and Bobby stumbled out and were gone

It was almost twelve thirty, and I was a half hour from the bar
So I knew it was not worth it rushing there in my car
The next thing that I remember was driving from Hicktown to my apartment
And I was holding the wheel with both hands; I knew what another OUI meant

It was daylight, and my face was pressed close to the steering wheel
when I noticed small fluffy white sparkles illuminating the road; I remember asking out loud what was the deal
They were shiny, and I remember talking out loud, saying over and over that they were so pretty
I remember trying to keep the car straight as I crossed over three bridges into my city

After I crossed the bridges, I had to go by the police station in town
I contemplated stopping to ask what it was that was pouring down
And I remembered that I was drunk, and it wouldn't be a good idea
It was unreal, I thought, and all of a sudden, a revelation of some sorts came over me

As I arrived in my driveway, I didn't dare to get out of the car
I thought the little white puffy things were from a broken fallen star
So I sat there for an hour, staring at them accumulating on a tree
I was left wondering and fell asleep.  When I woke up, I remembered snorting some PCP

I was in and out of a blackout for six hours, recalling only bits and pieces, I think
One thing for sure was that I was hallucinating, and Chet had put cocaine in my drink
When I awoke, I saw my neighbor leaving for work
I was still stoned, and I wanted to go bezerk

Taking charge of the situation, in the pathetic state I was in
I realized that I was still in the car that I'd driven
and the white stuff that I freaked out on
was merely the first winter snowstorm

As I got out of the car, I found the half pint of booze
and I noticed that I was missing my shoes
After I got in my apartment, I laid on the bed and passed out
When I woke up, it was seven in the evening or just about

Once again, I had to drown my guilt from the past night
so I showered and drank the rest of the pint
This time, I walked to the bar in my city
I was quite pathetic at that age; frankly, it was such a pity
