Write about a life well lived...your own or someone you know
A tribute to life and living. A new poem, as long as you want, with a title and no collaborations.

"Debbie" (An Ode to Debbie Constantino)
A voice heard in the noise from the Otherside
The words come mumbled and whispered.
The messages they hold deciphered by an ear so keen, they seem unmistakable.
In a field shrouded with controversy, where voices ring of plenty and opinions never cease.
The mention of a name
Brings silence to critics
And clarity to voices so white.
With a name unforgettable,
A talent undeniable,
and a smile so kind,
She now resides an angel.
God, please let her remain a portal
For these voices of people long since passed.
Yes, her ways of hearing still hold meaning,
Her ways of capturing we are not done perfecting,
and the voices are not done speaking.
I know they are dedicating one last voice to
Debbie.

Rebirth

And we are there....
The springtime of our now In full bloom....
The whole of our destiny's have ignited
And our fates intermingling create such intoxicating
Fumes..

I am on high...
My baby you thrill me..

Together we are young..
Children discovering the cool feel of fingers covered in earth..
Give chase and catch the fringe of my skirt..
Dip this freckled nose gal's pig tail in your ink well..
Drop your pet snake in my pocket and hear me yell!

You make me giggle like a schoolgirl..
And my baby I vow...

To be your sweet forever..
To love you as your midnight bride..
To make you shake like a virgin between these thighs..
To know your lullaby by heart and sing it out loud in my moan..
To shine the whole of our bonfire love in the glint of my eye..

A life well lived in smoldering together our prize..
The beat of your rock causing my roll...
In outragous time we will dance our melody of souls...

In my body I have grown wings,
and flown from my mother home
to the town by the sea
when the weather is wet
and the sun is warm.

In my mind I have seen things
on journeys when willing to roam
on a skip and a hiccup, carefree,
without any regret
or need to reform.

In my years I have dined with kings
and shared each and every chromosome
after a cup of tea
and with a softened, curved silhouette
I have bathed, clean, beneath the thunderstorm.

Kathy Krajco

The obituary said nothing of your achievements
the many mountains you climbed or hands you held
it stands like a monument as the last mirror left
reflecting the emptiness you unveiled

let it speak volumes that you lived so well
your murder had to be upstaged by stealing its anniversary
history wont know their name but tears will be shed for you always
as another scapegoat learns the dynamic of their doom
and finds hope in your notes

I know the broken glass floors and suffocating air
you ran from
the battle through the loneliness of knowing
you exist outside the image painted by a malignant mind
and can't prove it

you heal even now
from beyond
as we swim through your words
finding comfort in the desperation

we who've seen the inside of evil
take refuge in hearing it described as we remember
rivaling the propaganda we'd drown in without truth
and we who've taken the leap of faith are flying
in spite of their warnings

uniting outside their triangles
exposing them
yes, exposing them!

you shone a light when the darkness held me
entombed and desperate
your compassion led me home in every sense
back to myself

your life was so well lived
in spite of the hand you were dealt
you are the truest goodness
the kind that ripens sweeter in harsh circumstance
comes out of darkness shining

some things hurt us so deeply
we are changed completely
right down to our cells
and I thank you
for leaving an impression that proves the reflections
weren't yours
aren't ours

thank you

*In memory of Kathy Krajco, who's obituary I will re-write in the hopes of showing some respect to a woman I admire immeasurably.

I wrote this poem and read it at the funeral of my friend and comrade-in-arms Captain Ron Graham Late of H.M's Royal Artillery

A Life Well Lived

Time moves on for everyone
No one is immune
Some are strong live a life that’s long
And others gone too soon

What counts is how we choose to live
Of the love we freely share
The acts of kindness that we give
That show we truly care

The loyalty and comradeship
When danger’s jointly shared
Your warming word of encouragement
When you yourself were scared

These things will be remembered
By those who knew you best
Now this mortal life’s surrendered
And you are laid to rest

Although we mourn because you’re gone
It can be fairly said
Your memory will be cherished Ron
Yours was a life well led.

I am proud and honoured that you called me friend.

Looking back

Looking back on my life
now that I am almost eighty
I give thanks for all the pain and strife
because I got through it, and some of it was weighty

There were the alcoholic days
and the men I chose for the wrong reasons
And let's not forget how I worshipped the sun's rays
and despised the colder seasons

I have lost those closest to me
and I am the last one left to say goodbye
To this world and what I came to be
Let's just say there by the grace of God go I

I contributed in the most beautiful way
to this planet we call earth
and that was when I entered a hospital that one warm day
and to my only son, I gave birth

He looks like his dad
with deep emotions like his mom
And let's not forget something else that he had
from me, a hot Italian temper, oh, I could write a song

For all of the little animals that go hungry
I did my part by adopting some wonderful dogs and cats
I am proud to have been a lover of all things furry
I even fed the pathetic grey pointed-nosed mole rats

When I was young, I soared almost to the moon
There wasn't anything I couldn't do
Graduation couldn't come none too soon
for this young girl with eyes of blue

Beautiful, talented, and smart as a whip
I had a wonderful family who praised my ever step
I could hardly wait at the port for my ship
and when it arrived, I was not afraid to get in and get wet

If the meaning of life is to look back and say
that you have not one regret
then I passed the test today
because did my best

A live well lived, that is what I hope to say
as I prepare to leave, please be kind to each other
Because when the good Lord comes your way
He looks at how you lived in this world before you enter another
