I've never seen 'God' make a man,
But I've seen plenty men
Abandon babys they didn't plan
Turn their backs
Change their pace
Wash their hands
And then ran...
Leaving many women
Raising boys to become something they don't understand
It's sad
But DNA isn't what makes you a dad...

Alone Again

Alone again
In the empty, dark, glass house
Where I blind myself to the world around me
On display for everyone to see and mock
Like a unique freak in this town of genuises and saints
The die for failures has been recast
Satisfied or bored with the train wreck I call my life
They move on to the next freak show
The new curiosity
The new exhibition
To pitch their shekels and
Laugh and point their holy fingers to inflate their egos
No empathy for the distressed soul
Clinging to a faltering ideology
Leaving me here content in my ignorance
I stupidly wait for the next patron to come by and
Get their money's worth
In the dark glass house
Where I
Am blind to the obvious

Fellow Humans, Goodbye.

Humans,

This earth, our home
is in a new phase of extinction

species are now vanishing OVER one hundred times
faster than all previous rates
the dinosaurs went extinct the last time

habitat loss and every form of pollution
some claim an asteroid will hit anytime
(that one in September looks like it might)

this planet is our human habitat
and while they play divide and conquer to

rule the monopoly and frack the dregs of all humanity

remember, your homo sapiens family

cold war politics and religious intolerance
ranting over flags and offensive photos
still giving rights to
minorities
gays
children
like freedom shouldn't come automatically
by birth as a human

we're training the robots to replace us
and even authentic stupidity should see our jobs leave
as artificial intelligence tell the demographics
to the rich
to make the middle class
get the poor

if we don't get our crap together and realize what we're doing
there will be no future for our children

you vote every single day with your spending

and that television!!!
those who own every station
would rather cope with the burden of a million
than 7 billion
so as they're traipsing the globe
taking every seed and cell of life to
preserve on ice

and having you argue of refugee rights
immigration, religion
flags..........................

start writing the poetry of goodbyes
maybe the seventh civilization will learn from it

"Loss of species disrupts ecosystems, leading to serious knock-effects felt by humans, the scientists stressed. Crop pollination by bees and the water purification of wetlands were two examples of biodiversity benefits which could be lost in three human lifetimes."

Scapegoat

Barely human, he sickens you
as he asks for a dollar in the name of your Savior.
Him; the blame for all the problems
our infallible country has.

He sleeps under a bridge,
drinking cheap booze
just to stay warm,
maybe a little to hide.

Hunt this monster down,
a sacrifice
to the gods of decency,
and the disciples of denial.

It is all so surreal because not so long ago
under the layers of dirt and shame and shaggy beard
he was a son, a brother, a neighbor, a friend
until the world collapsed and he fell in

and became a shadowy demon.

Burn all the effigies the masses have chosen
to be the source of all the problems!!!
It is easier than actually doing
anything to fix them.

Be careful, though,
because, who knows
when the effigy they choose
might look like you?

In the Mental Hospital

The woman hides behind the jet-black
yet luminous, silky curtain
of her hair.
The room is silent.
She is like a swimmer stepped
from a pool of dark water
and dripping with grief.
I can only imagine how
the three of them held her down,
buried themselves inside her;
how they craved a taste
of that beauty, to slip
into the skin of something right.
I ache to comfort her, to tell her
something hollow and trite,
that something good must come
from every action. That must be
the source of the seed
that blossomed inside her
and gave birth to the son
whom she adores. Instead
we talk of weight loss surgery
and angioplasty while I stare
at the pear-soft skin of her hands,
how they seem so supplicant,
folded in prayer
upon a plastic work bench.

Faceless Terrorists

These days
I draw optimistic last oxygens,
My heart adrift the fears of onslaughts,
I grieve the massacre
I breath a relieve of pain
My tears with the blood of the slain forms a pool of lamentation,
I drag my feet in it as a travel path to solace,

They are now with us,
They are right in our midst,
They are disguised in our faces,
They behave like us,
How can we fish them; the hook and bait was never meant for invisible targets..

Gone are the days of Freetown wars
Healed are the hearts of Rwandan genocide's survivors!
Then and now are the suicidal attacks in Middle-East

They were far from us,
Now the worse sects are with us.

Theirs were and still got faces,
We know some of the terrorist sects camp base'
We knew the faces of the diamond seekers

But ours is 'sick'
People claim they live in a non existent 'Sambisa Forest'

I don't believe!

I believe they live with the rich,
I believe they transport themselves in government convoys
I believe they use government's moneys to fund themselves.
That's a believe and I strongly hold onto that.

They claim their name is 'BokoHaram'

Here we are at their mercies,
Gun shots everywhere
Bombs everywhere
Swords drinking blood

We wake up every new day with news of unlucky victims
But this is no revolution,
This might be the government in disguise,

How comes when the faceless comes
The rich don't say good bye to us?
The poor keep doing so.

'Poof'
tu, tu, tu.....

'Boom'
bua, bua, bua....

I wish I could express the sound of the sword cutting life out too.

For how long will humans be butchered?
Pieces of human flesh littered on streets,
We tip toe like thieves to avoid the awful meats,
Heads blown out like smashed tomatoes,
Blood stains on walls, green areas and road paths,
Roses waiting for a wash, The rains had seized.

Imagine a ram being slaughtered-replace that scenario with a human!
That's what we see everyday.

We are living with dark people with faces bright as angel's
They only time we spot them is when they are detonated in the bombs too.
And that is always too late.

Thank you very much, LobodeSanPedro! I feel very honored for my poem having been picked as the winning poem… and at a very timely moment indeed, I could not agree more. So many fantastic poems were submitted as well, so congrats to everyone for their respective writes! A truly great contest, and one I am: very proud at having won. :)
