AND ALSO THE TREES

There Was A Man Of Double Deed (w Anon) Lyrics

There was a man of double deed
Who sowed his garden full of seed
When the seed began to grow
'Twas like a garden full of snow
When the snow began to melt
'Twas like a ship without a bell
When the ship began to sail
'Twas like a bird without a tail
When the bird began to fly
'Twas like an eagle on the sky
When the sky began to roar
'Twas like a lion at my door
When the door began to crack
'Twas like a stick across my back
When my back began to smart
'Twas like a penknife in my heart
When my heart began to bleed
'Twas death, and death, and death indeed

If at first.....

There was a girl who filled my heart
It was a shame we had to part
She had another at that time
With whom her heart did chime.
Later I heard that they had split
I hoped that now she would commit
I sought to find her high and low
Through wind, rain and deep snow
At last I came upon her dwelling
Pleased to see me; she was smiling
Without more ado invited into her room
Wanting our relationship to resume
Feeding me on cakes and tea
The conversation was bright and free
Relaxing with her in my arms
I remembered  her womanly charms
The way she kissed and made love
I thought I was in heaven above
We agreed that none could sever
She became lovers for ever

The Demon In My head

There was a demon in my head
Who danced at night and slept in my bed
When it got bored of having it's way,
It prayed for light, and it let it stay
When the light began to grow
It pretended not to know
When the ignored morphed to joy
It plotted a treacherous ploy
When the joy transformed to love
It pulled on an iron glove
When the glove melted with light
It feared such mysterious might
When the light an angel unveiled
It panicked, all its plan revealed
When the Angel taller grew
It packed up its bag at night and flew
Now and again it cries anew
It's voice from the distance, repeating
"If only I knew, if only I knew..."

The Moon crier

There he stood by the light of the moon
Who shadowed the window of her home
When he softly whispered her name
'Twas like an enchantment from way before
When the world was very young
'Twas like a lure to ultimate peace
When the sky stretched out in crystal blue
'Twas like kisses of many promises
When nothing touched the ghosts of doubts
'Twas the joy of togetherness
When souls and hearts coalesced
'Twas but sweet whispers to gain the hand
When touched and trusted began to break
'Twas nothing but empty hopes
When everything was bared to show all
'Twas but a sad waking dream
When sun rose and he was gone
'Twas just a wisp of what might have been.

The Transformation

There was a junkie with no money
Who roamed the streets selling her body.
When her body became old and used,
'Twas like a silent child always abused.
When the abused finally spoke,
'Twas like hearing a dead body croak.
When the croak turned to silence,
'Twas like being on a deserted island.
When the island skies thunder-stormed,
'Twas like a life suddenly transformed.
When the transformation became the norm,
'Twas like discovering a new life form.
When the new life form was no longer new,
'Twas like staring at a familiar view.
When the view began to change,
'Twas like reading about the stock exchange.
When the stock exchange gave good luck,
'Twas like a junkie becoming unstuck.

The Death of Me

There was a time when we loved so deeply
Who was it that stole you, stole it away?
When was it, you then, decided to stay?
‘Twas an empty heart you gave me
When mine was full to bursting
‘Twas your arms, so cold and uninviting
When mine warmed the fibers of your being
‘Twas your vacant eyes that looked through me
When mine gazed deep in to your soul
‘Twas the lack of a smile upon your face
When I couldn’t stop beaming
‘Twas the cold wind blowing between us
When I tried so hard to warm it
‘Twas your emotional withdrawal
When I loved you so completely
‘Twas the final straw when you didn’t see me
When I was the only one standing
‘Twas at that moment, i felt...me dying

'Twas Indeed

There was a deed done by a man
Who sowed seeds in his beautiful garden
When the growing seed spoke
'Twas like snow filled the garden
When the melting snow died
'Twas like a bell without a ship
When the sail married the ship
'Twas like a tail on a bird
When the flying the bird did
'Twas like the sky and eagle
When the roar of the sky penetrated
'Twas at my door a lion
When the crack of the door
'Twas like my back across a stick
When my smart mouth screamed
'Twas my heart like a penknife
When my bleeding heart cried
'Twas death, indeed death!

- The Garden of Forgotten Shame -

There was a garden watered by angels,
Who had beauty that outshone the sun!
When ages passed, desolation’s evils…
‘Twas fated would end what was begun.
When desert sands, replaced the green,
‘Twas only a small oasis didst remain…
And only by chosen eyes: was this seen.
‘Twas as fleeting as all that sandy grain!
When history, was not counted as now.
‘Twas then, that this legend didst occur,
When before old gods man didst bow…
‘Twas a goddess’s garden: only for her.
And men forgot the divinity’s fair name!
‘Twas the doom of mortals to forget so,
And why there came the heat and flame.
‘Twas so that the waters didst not flow,
Until the oasis died of mankind’s shame.
Now none remain who recall and know!
