Poetry Contest

Write a poem about a movie that inspired you
I wrote a poem after seeing American Sniper. So I thought I would make a competition where people write a poem about a movie that inspired them.

Not many rules

Must be new
Must be about a movie
As many entries as you want
And please post what movie inspired you

With love and respect

Me first!

American Sniper - Great movie a must see

“No Victory”

Having a few drinks with friends
Screaming out “fuck my flaws!”
Laughing, smiling, all of life’s little moments
One last hooah! Before we head off to Iraq
Celebrating the last of our home stay
But tomorrow we will be in a shit storm
Together on the front lines
Trying to save lives

Death is a horrible thing
The exact opposite of life
Without death there is no life
Life without death is meaningless
But in-between life and death is gray
I look through a scope I see a kid
He slowly runs to our troops holding a grenade
My bullet fly’s out burning through flesh shattering bone
A little body lying in dusty streets
Another life I will have to answer for

War, a necessary evil
Without war there is no protection
For everyone to call you a hero
There’s another who calls you a killer
I only think of the lives I save
Can’t have these people make it into our homeland
Kill or be killed
Many friends shot dead in front of me
Nights crying silently
Some days thinking am I a hypocrite?
Seen enough blood, now time to go home

Meeting the love of a good women
Having kids that give my life purpose
Finally coming home to stay
Life’s big moments
Yet I feel detached
Every sound and action reminds me of war
Going down to the VA hospital
Realizing I could still save lives
Maybe this is my next mission

AND THE OSCAR GOES TOO

A hundred years from now
When I am long forgotten
Students of History will learn
The movie that defined my generation
Wasn’t made by Columbia Pictures
But by a humble Texas tailor
Who’s name was Abraham Zapruder

The Guard

One of those films where
the lead character makes the show
the screenwriter is excellent and the producer
second to none

the language is mostly plain
but the depth in what they say
the quips and retorts
the plot and character development
is stellar

expect some laughs if you're at all cerebral
and a line or two that will live on forever
in your mind
added to your usual repertoire

serial killers, hookers
corruption and drugs
set ups, lies
thugs

a movie with something for every movie lover

saw him playing a yank the other day in a film..really funny to hear him fake that accent.

The Theory of Everything

Stephen
when I see you
curled feet
neck bent
I want to weep

for you unlocked our universe
with your wisdom
as your body shrunk and shrunk
your mind expanded
like you knew the world
was expanding infinitely

no limits
no boundaries

your brilliant understanding
possessed all it took in
though you were only human
your crooked fingers
caressed the stars

you said there was an answer
for everything
that one equation could solve
all our questions
our loves
fears
deaths

and I believe you will find
the answer to it someday

but it was not fair
what was done to you
some arbitrary disease
as if from some arbitrary God
it makes me want to scream
the pain I feel for you
makes me shudder inside

though when I see
you in your wheelchair
frail body
robotic voice
commanding the presence
of millions
the cosmos dancing in your eyes

i know you are what
true strength really is

for once you said
no matter how difficult life is
there is always something
to be good at in this existence

there is always

Hope

Recently saw "The Babadook". Easily one of the best horror movies I've watched from the last ten years.

"Bowl of Worms"

On the eve of my creation, you knew so
well how erroneously you behaved. After all, even your
hands, stained charcoal with benevolent intent, could
not have prevented the words you spoke - the name you
gave me that let me in.

And once here, I needed a home. Something broken,
manipulable - you made me out of a dark place in a dark
time. The boy... the boy can see, and I cannot let such
things go on idly while he prepares for war. So I think I'll
take to you. Always with the violent sobbing after
you put your son to sleep with pills. Your husband died giving
him life seven years past, yet you linger on it as I will.

You lack the zeal he has - the boy - so I need you to kill him, or
I will do it with you, using you. You see, the cloak and top hat and
feral grin of mine were your best defenses, but you lost them in
pen and ink. You've opened quite the can of worms for yourself, but
me, I'll take a fucking bowl of them.
