Poetry Contest

A soliloquy; 1. the act of talking to oneself. 2. a monologue that represents a series of unspoken reflections
In all seriousness, keep humour out of this one. 1 entry. Note the time limit. Make us understand. Goodluck to all participants

I thought I had myself in check,
believed I could control it yet
I find the fool inside will out...

I thought I had myself in check,
believed I could control it yet
again I begin to doubt...

feathered song

  love.  abandon.  hope.
these words, like feathers, i toss
into the winds.
  serenity.  comfort.  peace.
feathers, borne upon the zephyr’s back,
to travel stormy distances.

  pride.  capture.  emblazon.
ragged and poor, a beggar’s dowry,
imbued with frightful essence.
  indignant.  lust.  birthright.
a whisper that grows to thunder.
a journey fraught with anguish,
caressed by softly rain.

  defiance.  gallant.  hampered.
fearsome eagle is shunned,
vultures glanced away, by undaunted eyes.
  unchained.  glorious.  casualty.
clouds recede, stars become ellipses.
angels gaze in envy.

and feathers, floating, abide
in shanty town, on desolate highway
in farmer’s field, or battle ground
a village strifely torn
city of lamp lit cobblestones.

and gifted
to wondering ears and fiery eyes
in turbulent times and violent climes
where poems are made.

.:Page[r] Turned On:.

all but vacated like whispered winds
a deliberate hibernation?
who really knows how it goes?
words once in awhile judiciously read
the who, the what of what’s been said, then
left behind reminding those curious about our thing
now & again, the occasional exclamation of
man, that was really something
senses grabbing hold, re-discovering
willing to wink, to blink
just think.

this is what a taste is
the combing, the climbing
folk journeying through these old vestiges
gone-bye messages; remnants making an appeal
searching for hearts, our smarts to reveal
seeing things vividly, for real
the whole world hunkered down
wrapped around some same-song menu
that freebasing of newer media
to date, us eating from the seeker’s plate
sugary home fries as we realize
they just don’t cook the same
maybe it’s the frame, but
picture this

we used to squat
right there on the curb
at a table, some of us on the floor
we’d watch while waiting resting up for the latest
those soliloquies were the greatest
defining our tears, our smiles as reward
each subsequent visit another free verse
another torrentially tossed-up rhyme
was it a sign?  each emotional spark
making its mark; another
just cause for our re-awakening
our need for discipline, not placating
mad doses of that critical coolness

such an assertive astuteness
a touch missed so much
how it would place us right there
the word heard, the way it got served
everyone could tell this had always been the mission
art as craft validated by each submission
each an attempt to alleviate the peril; our world
the way the passion; the way it unfurled
man, really, this could really be something
all over again...all of us again spilling our spirit
all over, humans being human
and being into something
fingers wondering ::can you feel it?

Hell or High Water...

What did I decide this morning as I drove along?
Not to think of you so much...that’s right
I need to learn from the last time this happened
Not to let thoughts of you take over my life

Time will not go quicker if you’re constantly on my mind
This is a test to see if I’m serious about you
Do I have staying power in this quest?
By god, I’m going to prove that I do

I’m not backing away from this or you
I want you so badly I’m prepared to acquiesce
Perseverance and patience is the name of the game
hey, I’ve been practicing these all year
I'm a master at this game...

So bring it on, I'm like a dog with a bone
I'm not letting it go
You'll see, come hell or high water
By the time four months has passed
I'll be in your arms at last...

Cerulean Reflections

O' soul, how could twilight's dawn appease
which vision will lend me liberty
a mere reflection that I am
falling in steps to dance of death
my ink's magic stands askance
besets my own inequity
wrap me in silence against threshold
beseeched spliced by lightning bolt
my reasoning will grow in hands of cold

O' noble one, the earth shall cry
seared upon my deepest core
crimson tears beyond my reach
innocence rebirth in fortress of fear
seduced and nestled in sweet delusion
truth smiles as it leaves me weak
Tis beauty, thy creation
such purity I ne'er knew, thusly
imitations value none thy own

Congrats Penknife. In my mind, you deserve this trophy and your soliloquy was. . .enlightening and it's developement was very interesting to follow. Although, i wish it was a tiny bit more assertive. (Less '?')
Congrats again!
Rina you came real close. Congrats on runner-up(no trophy for that though. Sorry)

As for dartford, JohnFeddeler, kriticool, seekingkate and roachmill, please forgive my decision. I made good use of the 24 hours after the closing hour to study your entries. And my decision was, in my mind, completely unbiased.

Thank you for participating.
