Fall is approaching, and all I can feel is cold encroaching
Walking on damned ice on the ground; I can hardly wait for that sound
I remember hearing the crunch and feeling the grit under my feet; it was fun moving about on all of that shit
As I prepare to stay warm in this old house, I wonder how I can keep out another pesky mouse
Autumn, fall, whatever you want to call it
I just know that I hate this season; because everything dies
No matter how I look at it, there is no rejoicing a bit
With it, I cannot lie, there come too many goodbyes
No more warmth, no more beach days
The leaves fall; all flowers expire
The ground heaves; you see your breath as you breath
I even hate putting on the snow tires, not to mention the chance of fireplace fires
If I have put kibosh on your imagination and fondness for fall and winter, don’t be brash
And don’t worry, this piece will be ending with a smash
Did I mention that the pets don't want to go to the bathroom outside in the cold?
And when they do...well, have fun scraping glare ice after trudging through four feet of snow; it all isn’t anywhere close to being nice
Shaking under blankets, hands and feet stay freezing for four months
My wrinkled skin cracks more as I get old
The wear and tear on my car costs more every year
It would be nice to spend fall and winter sitting inside drinking beer
The cost of heating for the house and extra clothes to stay warm
Feeling like you live in the middle of a tundra
Ice storms bend trees down to your knees
Come spring, some of them remain down, it is no wonder
Sorry this is a bummer, but I promised an ending with a smash for all
There are three things I love about winter and the start of fall
One, I don’t have to mow the lawn anymore
Two, the ice in my drink doesn’t melt in the car, even when I take road trips away and far
And three, the leaf colors are nice; will that suffice?
The promise of a warmer climate and my dreams have set sail all without snow and ice and down pouring hail
I will leave this forsaken place before I die
Even if it is for a month, I am destined to try
After all, I like birds, and I like warm water
Both of which nearly cease to exist come December
Why not go now, you ask?
I want my dream to forever, freaken’ last
Walking on damned ice on the ground; I can hardly wait for that sound
I remember hearing the crunch and feeling the grit under my feet; it was fun moving about on all of that shit

call her Autumn
Spring was mugged. Summer got slaughtered. now Autumn shows up,
but she won’t take the rap. she comes to set us up for old man Winter,
the Big Freeze. he’ll be rollin in to take over this town.
but she don’t say it out loud; she sidles in with her pretty make-up, reds
& yellows in her hair, a soft sweet scent. those eyes every boy’s mother
warned him about. a slight chill to make you crave something warm;
spiked apple cider, maybe, in a dainty teacup, so the cops don’t get
suspicious.
she’s a beauty, she’s a hustler. but what can I do? I’m just a small time
private eye. I fall for her colors like she hit me with brass knuckles. &
I like it, it’s a dream I don’t want to wake up from.
throw a few more logs in the fire, it’s gonna be a long cold night…

I though your entry was very good especially this stanza and this line right here was a zinger! The ground heaves, idk when I read those three little words my mind went into a spin!
Great imagery..
Good Luck!

Changes a coming
You hear the wind blowing
red, orange, brown
Colors are glowing
Tree leaves falling without out ya knowing
Autumn is peeking through
Children are all back at school
Costume choices
Candy galore
pumpking carvings
little ones knocking on your door
Turkey and pumpkin pies
"Oh My My"
Fall is approaching....
the breeze of apple cider brewing
Snuggling by the fire
Awaiting for more changes
I so desire

Autumn’s Return
Splashes of hue begin to appear
Coloring the tops of the trees
Like upturned paint brushes
Ready to be plucked by God’s hand
Mother Nature’s life giving breath
Cools everything in sight
Pushing away the intolerable heat of summer
Her ethereal hands caress the land
Sending billowing clouds of colorful leaves
Scurrying to dance autumn’s lullaby
The evenings are cool and serene
The new moons smile down upon the dancing
Menagerie of Eden’s flower children
Fervently celebrating the changing season
Mother Nature sighs at the pleasurable sight
Tears of joy fall from her eyes
She is happy to unfold this plethora of color
In this new autumn season

The smell of the yellow sun
coming in from the outside
is reminder that the last
of the buttercups lay dying
with smell of cordwood upon them,
There are cider shrines
of painted pomades and husks
over ginger men and apples;
autumn’s ablaze in candy shades
of amethyst that light their cheeks,
The smell of the yellow sun
coming in from the outside
is reminder that the last
of the buttercups lay dying
