Never thought that someday
seaweeds would be popular -
a tasty delicacy and
a healthy drink
depending on your choice
They used to be just floating
around my beloved beach
not worthy of my fucking attention!

HOMECOMING
We graduated from this university
So long ago, now it is fall and homecoming
For the largest generation yet
To walk through these hallowed doors
As we walk on the grass the maple leaves fall
Dark reds to yellow, the colours make it all
So nostalgic, yet, we came here to remember
Some came to forget, the years we spent here
Flew away so fast, first a freshman
Then graduation, hats thrown in the air
Photos of long ago, with long thick hair
We are still among the living
Deaths started at graduation
Misfortunes, illnesses can happen any time
Some of us are recognizable from those days
Others have changed in so many ways
We come with our children or spouses, or both
Who cannot believe their parents believed in free love
The odor of wet leaves on the ground
The day is fall, yet the sun strongly shines
Hot coffee soothes as we drink while walking
The buildings are still there, the vines still clinging
We exchange information about our lives
We exaggerate how well we have done
With elaborate lies, for one has to have done well
To come to this place, it only accepted above 80
We knew we were special in different ways
Age had humbled all of us so we were much less flashy
Than the times when we used to be rowdy
Exchanging stories of what happened back then
The sweet fall breeze brings a sudden hush
Don't talk so much, listen to, the ghosts of us.

Another day, another dollar,
At least that's what I use to say,
The sun hurts my eyes,
Not enough hours in the day,
When the sun lays it's head down,
Is when I feel alive,
Party and drinking,
No use resisting, better to take the ride.

Along came a sower, pockets with grain
Cast out his lot and acted in vain
The plowed earth was fasting, partaketh not
The grain, it was wasted, from sun turned to rot
A hole he could thatch, with firm hands he plucked
A bird from the range, low and hungry, with luck
His feathered friend fed, eureka! what fun
But one day it died, his grand plan undone
A new plan he hatched, with fervor and mettle
He'd take those old bones and fill them with aether
Love would comply as his honest heart begged
First was the chicken, but instead won the egg

Midnight Serenade
Late at night I lay awake
I toss and turn,
I shiver and shake.
You kiss my lips and take my hand
And start to sooth my restless mind.
Like the ocean when it hits the sand.
You hum your soothing serenade,
The song you wrote when we first met.
Before I know it I'm fast asleep,
Dreaming in the world I made.
